Here'a a picture of the SWB 3-servo tray in mine... I have a 3W 170, so I wanted to get the weight back as much as possible. With the servos just in front of the former in the picture, and the batteries mounted where you see them... it balanced perfect! |

I played hookey from the office today (hope nobody at work reads these threads!!) and had an opportunity to maiden the Ultimate! Man, what a great flying plane. Plenty of power in the 170, balanced perfect, it glides in like a trainer. I needed a couple of clicks of aileron, other than that, it was spot on, right out of the box. This plane does need a good bit of rudder to kick it over in a hammerhead, so count on high rate rudder throws for both high and low rates.
I won't have another opportunity to fly for at least 2 weeks, maybe 3, so this was a very much needed break. |

reyn.....if you have any setup advice that you haven't posted here....i am setting mine up with the 3w 170 on stock muffs as well. i thought i would still have to put the servos (3 5955's) in the tail for the rudder and not use servo tray... hopefully this will not be the case as i like the pull pull setup. PM me if you would with any suggestions on this part or any other of the assembly. i expect my arf to be here any day now!
thanks and congrats on a great maiden!!!!! matt mikesh

Mine's a very basic setup.. the rudder servo tray is at the back of the canopy area, you see the receiver battery placement. The ignition battery is at the front corner of the canopy opening. I have a Futaba receiver, so I went with the Smart-fly 14mz power box, batteries connected directly to it.
I did put some additional support wood in the outside corners where the motor box meets the fuse... my 170 shakes like frying bacon at idle... its actually torn the screws out of the top of the motor box! I need to get some more time on the motor, it should settle down. The motor didn't gurgle at all throughout the power band, so I was very pleased with it. I had the plane balanced at 9 3/4 behind the leading edge of the wing.. at the center of the wing. |

We could certainly do that.
Snoopy.....I'm glad to see some wiring layout that's as sloppy as mine! Something tells me you're going to clean yours up, though. |

I got several more flights in today.. I'm really starting to like the Ultimate. The 3W 170 has plenty of guts, but it shakes like crazy at idle... maybe I need to lean the low end out just a little.
