Gman, did you reposition the bay for running a single on those ailerons? Then stiffen as well?
Thats a big pain in the a@# to me. I'd sooner put two in the original bays. |

Since the holes are already there I used them and put 2 5645's on each aileron. They work great!
On another note though, I wanted to deflect the elevators to 45 degrees instead of the 31 degrees that the manual states. I emailed Mike Mconville who told me that I should reinforce the hole where the horn screw goes through in the elevator with thin ply top and bottom. Regards, Robert

The inside hole and no I did not reposition the bay, the aileron is plenty stiff and doesn't flex.

Mind you, biplanes do not do very good waterfalls anyway. I want to try 45 degrees more for flat spins than anything else. Regards, Robert

The sweet spot for my type of flying is to have it so that you just barely lean on the down stick when inverted for level flight. Once you get the cg at that spot though, you may find landing is a bit of a pain due the plane wanting to drag it's butt for which lean on the down elevator to keep the nose down until flare is required. The other thing I think the nose heavy condition causes is exaggerated stall when trying to apply down elevator when after halting an inverted flat spin to bring the nose up to transition into a rolling harrier. I am hoping the rearward cg will ease this condition as well. We'll see... Regards, Robert

When I bought my first Ultimate the guy had put in some digital Futabas (cant remember the number) two on each aileron. If you tried to snap the plane on a downline it would do some ugly slow roll. I took those out and installed 2 8411s and they have worked very well no stalling anytime. I have huge aileron throw my plane rolls like a rocket. I also agree the plane is nose heavy. I lost one and built another one and put 2 8711s in the tail in push pull for the rudder and 2 8711s on the elevators all mounted in the rear and it is still nose heavy.
For me to save weight I would do 1 8711 in each aileron but I am not going to buy another Powerbox Royal to drive those 8 servos. my .02c

my cg is 9inch three quarters - 31deg elevator is more than enough for all maneuvers - its in the cg

waterfalls not the ulti's forte but so many other maneuvers that it does well it doesn't matter - I fly mine as a show plane and flipping it from inverted harrier to upright 3feet of the ground that makes people spin!!lol and then running TR with the wind all the way down the run way also looks great, for the rest the pure ambiance is what the ulti is all about - so no Imac stuff just pure show flying - love my ulti!!!!
