I need some advise on my Composite-ARF SuperExtra (Carbon Spar) plane as far as mounting the engine:
1) I have 2.5* right thrust, but no up thrust. Should I have 1* of up thrust? I fly mostly 3D and NO IMAC, so if I have 1* of up Thrust, then when flying inverted, should I move the batts further back, or use the front wing position for balance??? 2) In the manual for both my SuperExtra and my 3.3 YAK55SP, should I have 3/4 oz of lead in the leading edge of my elevators for counter-balance? Thank you for your help! Best Regards, Mark |

I just maidened the same plane (with carbon spar). I am using a SWB 3.5 degree mount for 150cc engines. You can find it at swbmfg.com.
Regarding the counter balance, I do not think you need to do this if you use 2 servos per elevator. I have 4 hitec 5955 servos total on the elevator and I was told by a number of Comp Arf reps and owners that this will be fine. I did have to add 12oz of lead to the nose. BTW - Use the rear wing position. Jason Shulman told me this is where the tube is located on the wing tube version of our plane. My plane is rock solid for 3D. Thank you very much for the reply!
Are you running any up-thrust? I was told I needed 1* of up, but I just want to make sure it is needed. Thanks, Mark |

yes, 1 degree of upthrust. Wing in rear position and if you are using 4 elevator servos, no lead is needed. Jason, on Andrews computer

Jason, I was using 4 elevator servos and it came out very tail heavy.... do you mean that no lead is needed if your ARE NOT using 4 elevator servos?
