Hello guys,
I recently changed my pick-up on my DA 50. I didn't know until Rolling Harrier told me that I would have to reset the timing! WOW before that I knew something was not quite right. I started my engine up to see if the pick up was the problem and indeed it was. However, I noticed it sure seemed like it was running extra hot from just a short run. It sound great, just a little off and seemed to need just a little tweaking. I guessed that is why it is starting to run hot now? Glad I just didn't take off and start flying, cause I could have started frying! Can anyone tell me how they set their timing on their DA 50 or gas engines? Are all gas engines ingition timing settings the same? I want to hear how you guys do it successfully! I know the first thing I will want to do is draw some lines..But where? Top dead center? Where and what is top dead center? What should align with these lines? Which way is considered up and down on the senor, looking at the engine from the front, back or right side where the senor is? Turning the sensor right or left, or up and down? What is increase (lean) /decrease (rich)? ![]() I do not mean to make it more complicated than it is and aske so many questions. But I won't learn and understand how unless I ask how do you guys do it? I just got in so I am pretty tired so I will check back later tonight... Thanks for your help guys K L O W N

There's very little adjustment, just the width of the slots in the sensor...Looking at the front, from the front, moving the sensor clockwise will advance the timing, counterclockwise will retard the timing...Check the rpm with the sensor all the way clockwise, then check it all the way counterclockwise...If no difference leave it all the way counterclockwise...Nothing else you can do short of sending it back to DA....

I did get an answer from one of the guys at D.A. via e-mail. This is what they said:
The first thing you will want to do is take a fine line sharpie pen and draw a line at the leading edge of the magnet on the prop hub to the front of the hub. (as you look at the engine from the front that will be on the left side of the magnet. Then you need to take the spark plug out of the motor and put a small dowel rod inside the motor and just let it rest on top of the piston. Slowly rotate the motor over the direction that it runs, until the dowel comes all the way out of the plug hole and starts to go back in. Center the rotation of the hub by the dowel going in and out and this is top dead center. Now your mark you made on the hub on the leading edge of the magnet should be under the sensor. There is a small hash mark on the front of the sensor. Your mark should align with hash mark and this will be perfect. I hope this helps, So this is something I "Can Do"! Thanks for the other reply K L O W N
