2015 IMAC Nats - FlyingGiants Event Coverage!

FlyingGiants sent Miss Ashley Rose to Muncie to cover this year's IMAC event! Read her report and check out her photos!

Come Hell or High Water!

Boy did the waters pour! High winds and low ceilings kept everyone on the edge of their seats, and under their tents. Muncie storms did more than just irritate this competition. For the first time not one, but two days were called off at the NATS due to inclement weather. There's no doubt about it, we were in Mother Nature's hands this week. I showed up in just enough time on Wednesday to find out that the day had been called AND that Freestyles had moved from Thursday afternoon to earlier Wednesday morning. So, I pulled up anchor and floated back to the hotel. At the banquet Wednesday night, the topic on everyone's lips was scoring. How are we going to score with only 3 days of flying?! After open-pilot debate, it was decided that the first 3 days would weigh 50% and Thursday's flights would make up the other 50%.

With that in mind, Kevin Turner shows up on the flight line Thursday morning with no caller, no arestee, and ready to fly his unknown that he had yet to look at! Ah, doctor dad. Santiago Perez paid us a visit all the way from the West coast, The Reifs were up from SOFLO , and I'm pretty sure I saw some Canadians, eh! Sweeping the Unlimited Class was Mr. Kurt Koeling, a full time professor at Ohio State. I caught up with Kurt to ask him how he felt, in one word, about his 8th Championship title and his 7th Bennet Cup win; "Elated!" We couldn't agree more! Congratulations on such an achievement! And to all the participants, great job!

Was a great IMAC NATS despite the rain! Was great to see everyone and even better to actually decide to fly in the event vice just go out and hang out with everyone! Had a blast! Heck...even did better than my "planned" last place finish in sportsman!

Thanks to everyone involved! Well done!

I couldn't believe Tyler took the time to send me this pm after he saw my question here.
Thank You young man you have a bright future!

Hi Steve,
I saw your post asking about the setups on my IMAC planes. The 150cc AW Extra 300 flies very precisely in any class IMAC sequences. It holds a great line, good downline braking, awesome snaps, and generally tracks very well. The 100cc Edge, which I used for freestyle, is an insane plane. It also tracks and snaps well and would be good for IMAC, yet it does any type of high energy and 3D maneuver you throw at it, like rifle rollers and crankshafts. I have my setups listed below.

150cc Extra:
DA-170, RE3 Tuned Pipes, Mejzlik 30x13 EVO L prop
6 Savox 2270SG's on ailerons and elevator, 2 Hitec 7950's on rudder, Hitec 5665MH on throttle
Spektrum AR12120 PowerSafe receiver
2 7.4v Pulse 5000mah rx packs, unregulated

100cc Edge:
DA-120, Planebender Smooth Pipes, Mejzlik 28x12
7 JR DS-8911HV's, Hitec 5665 on throttle
Spektrum AR9110 PowerSafe receiver
2 7.4v Pulse 3600 rx packs, unregulated

If you would like to know anything else, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks,
Tyler McCormack
