Default Hanger 9 Frenzy

After seeing the ad in the most recent Model Airplane News for Hanger 9`s new 120 size ARF 3D machine the " Frenzy", got me looking on their website for more info.
I like Hanger 9`s aircraft, well built, quality components, good flying characteristics, at a price a single parent (me) can afford.
It is going to be released in mid August, so surfing around, I found it listed allready on Great Hobbies website here in Canada. Their price is $210 bucks Canadian. Thats a bargoon for a plane this size, especially a new release.
To put it in perspective, a 24 case of beer up here is now close to 38 dollars, so the plane is the equivilant value of five and a half cases. Not that I`m a big beer drinker, it just will make me feel better knowing that when I will eventually post hole it into terra firma.
With its thick wing, its just what I`m looking for in a 120 size, something I can thrash around at slower speeds.
If you are the first one on your block with one, I`ll be looking forward to your review.......and if you have any thoughts or know anything of it, Id love to read your 2 cents worth.

Might find a better 3D machine here: http://www.swanyshouse.com/mojo65/mojo65.aspx

The down side to the H9, besides it's made in china, it's only available in an arf. The Mojo is only available in a kit. It can be built in a weekend.

If you must have an arf, check out http://www.ohiomodelplanes.com/62katanaarf/. That is a fine beeyoch. I'm afraid the frenzy will be like twist, or a u can do. Great marketing, I'll give them that.

Profiler's do it better. See for your self at www.theprofilebrotherhood.com

Eric,
thanks for the info.......the president of our small club is currently flying the Ohio Yak54 profile. It flies fantastic, but dude, I just gotta have a fusalage on my plane to put my gear in. To many years as a youngster flying U-control profile airplanes and seeing ads for them in early seventies magazines. Always then wanting for example the 35 size Sterling "Ringmaster" instead of my 15 size "pre-tend-a-Ringmaster J.R."
OK for indoor foamies, cheap disposable chuckers, and kids catapult tree magnets, but I just cringe everytime I see a onlooker(non-pilot) smile at the guy carrying his RC "toy" profile plane.
I just can`t get over the look them still, 30 years later, no matter how good they knife edge!
Chad.

At a first glance the Frenzy's dimensions do look very solid indeed.

Its wing squares - The amount vert fuse hieght - the rudder elevator arrangement..

and for 189.00 bucks in American dollars is damn good - IMHO...

I also think there's a good chance Mike McConville may ( Ok Im guessing here)have had a hand in designing it..

I think that if you look at the overall weight verses the squares this is going to be a good 3D plane.

It acually looks like it's right on par with the FuntanaX 100 - and it costs less...

My interest has been peaked as well.....

Yeah, but it's still an H9. Might as well get a TMPro.

Swanyshouse.com, kalteisen.com, and ohiomodelplanes.com have great alternatives.

Sounds like you have a lot of experience with the Frenzy to be so sure about its capabilities. How many flights you got on one?

I am kind of new to the A.R.F scene, always having to prefered to build my own planes from a kit or scratch from plans in the past. I have been flying RC since 1979, (M.A.A.C. #18435) and was flying control line or rubber powered free flight before that.
When it comes to my aircraft, I am a super fuss-pot on how they appear, are assembled, are constructed, and of coarse how they fly. I always used to finish in Randolph or Sig dopes with silk, Royal silron, polyester or other fabrics for covering. My finish was light (dopes are a laquer base, shrinking almost to just the weight of the base pigment) professional looking, and very strong and repairable. I put my model airplane skills to work for me I might add as a side hobby painting Harley Davidson motorcycles doing graphics and murals.
Now though, being a self employed single parent of three small children, I no longer have the time or the desire (right now anyways) to build a kit. Plus I think unless its a dream scale airplane or a must have non-available ship in a A.R.F, you`d be just plain stupid to build one because the cost is greater than one already assembled for you.
I have built or flown a: Andrews Aeromasters, Bridi Dirty Birdi, Bridi U.F.O, Solution Saker, Balsa USA Smoothie & Force One , Ugly Sticks, Quickie 500`s, Goldberg Chipmunks, Bud Nosen Cub, Sig Cub, Scratch built Bucker Jungmiester, Sig Skybolt, Jack Staford E.A.A Acrosports, Dave Platt Waco and Spitfire, Ace Pacers, Great Planes Caps 21`s, various old timers , various trainers, Goldberg Ultamate ect. ect.
The last few years though I have been flying a Seagull Laser 200 and a 1/4 scale Hanger 9 Cap 232.
I just recently purchased a Hanger 9 Showtime 90. It is powered with a O.S Surpass 120 (non-pumped), APC 16x4W prop, 15% Morgan fuel, JR PCM 10 with JR 8411 servo`s around the clock.
And this is the best airplane I have ever flown to date.
It cost me only a grand total of $215 (Canadian). The fit and finish are #1, cowl and pants were pre-painted, light composite gear, good hardware, super light weight with plug-in assembly, it looks fantastic, and it took a whole 3 evenings to get ready to fly.
It has no knife edge coupling, stops instantly from a snap, does not drop a wing from a stall, hovers easily with good pull out, awsome flat spins, ect. ect.
I am very happy with the two Hanger 9 aircraft I have owned to date and will not hesitate to purchase another in the future.
This is why I am so curious about the Frenzy. It looks like a good machine to slow things down a bit more, and keep it in a tighter area in front of center stage.
But again I might add, I like to listen to other pilots opinions on how they like a airplane they have assembled and flown before I take the plunge and dish out the bucks, even though I think the Frenzy like the Showtime is dirt cheap.
I am purchasing this week a RCGUYS 1/3 scale Pitts S1 because of good reviews on another web site RCCANADA (regular $399 American, on sale briefly for $299 American!!!) for my first plane in the 50cc class. I know its not as good as choice for 3D as the other airplane I was thinking about (Hanger 9 27% Extra 260) but flying aerobatics is more than just hovering manouvers, and I would like to try a local company`s product .

So till next time , I`ll be waiting to hear some skinny on this one.....Chad.

Just maiden ed my new Frenzy, OS 91 pumped 4 stroke. be leave me its worth every cent, went together no issues, good hardware. on low rates it behaves like a low wing trainer slow flight has got to be seen to be leaved. Maybe due to my choice of engine, on high rates it flew very nice pattern but a little underprop for 3D. this was on APC 12x8, will try 13x9. Its like having two planes, low rates half throttle is so relaxing, high rates full bore will do the book. Watch it on landing or it will float right past you . Its a winner
