I didnt see a huge jump in revs on the ground when I switched to tuned pipes, however in the air they gave me a lot more power than the standard mufflers I was previoulsy running.
27 inch props are too small, I tried them and they just made a heap of noise for no added performance. IMO.
Agreed with Benny

I currently have a DA100 on BMB Canisters swinging a Mej 28x12 (yes 28x12) in a SD 35% Yak 54. It has more than enough power to fly IMAC (I fly in Unlimited) and to pull out of a hover. It is at 94db at 3M also

cheers

I think it might be hard to get high rpm's on a 28x10 without losing midrange. From what I have read, the tuned pipes that give you the best midrange are the Manfred Greves tuned pipes, while still giving you a decent top end. I've heard the KS give you more top end.

I'm sure some of the guys like razor or others with more pipe knowledge will jump in.

Good luck!

Vic,

If you read the post, the guy plainly has a DA and wants pipe advice.

FWB,

The proper term would be shameless plug, not worthless plug, nothing worthless about 3W engines.

I am not looking for the more powerful and lightest setup on earth but just something powerfull, reliable and easy to tune around the DA-100.

Sooo... two pipes out of two hundred have failed, both pipes being owned by the same guy (coincidence? Likely not. He is also the only poster there with bad reviews), and you have ruled them out entirely? Well, you are entitled to make quick decisions based on one person's negative feedback if you want. Me? I still think they are worth a try...

I took my decision after talking with DA guys and ordered a set of pipes with accessories. They are the new MTW RE-2 tuned pipes. Same weight of TD75 canister, same power boost of KS-1060 pipes with better midrange. The pipes will be installed in a 35% Carden Extra 260. Yeah, i'am back to the source of what brought me into this hobby. I am going to build it slowly and LIGHT, exactly like i want with my personal touch for IMAC.
Brian K. at DA is a great guy to deal with and knows very well the pipes setup. The header lenght is 11'' and MTW recommend between 290 to 310mm for DA-100 and Mejlzick 28x10. So, 11 inches header with 0.75'' space into the teflon coupler will be in that range.

An update on my setup, too. My ES Composite pipes are holding up flawlessly, they come on the pipe smoothly and at a relatively low RPM (around 2.5-3K), and I am getting 6700RPM after only two gallons through the engine on a Mejzlik 27X10 - and SUPER quiet. Oh, and the plane only weighs 26.3 pounds!!! However, after flying it a bit, and having some interesting experiences, I wouldn't have minded an extra pound, in more wood and more glue throughout the structure.

The pipes look very interesting. What does the complete setup cost and how much more does it weight than standard mufflers?

So Greeves, MTW RE-2, or ES composites?

Which should I use?

Pros / cons?

It depends of your goal:

ES: lightest pipes but expensive. Some guys reported defect pipes (pipes cooked without garanty) but most customers are happy.

MTW: cheaper than ES and same weight of canisters. You know DA customer seupport?

Greeves: Most expensive and no real RPM gain but good midrange and quiet.

I have greeves pipes. They are currently being installed on a 35% extra 260 from Dalton Aviation. They are HUGHE. Lots of modifications to get them too fit.
But they look sweet.
