Hi guys
I burned 1 more gallon of gas and did some tests with PT 27x10 and 28x10 prop. I had some emails feedback from MTW and here is what they recommend:

from MTW

We had amended the pipes once. The first series was 640 mm without outlet tube. The

I bought my pipes in October 2007 and they are from the first generation. For that reason, they need longer headers and MTW recommend 360mm minium for Mejlzick 28x10. Presently, ican turn Mejlzick 28x10 at 6400-6500 RP'M and PT-27x10 at 6600 RPM but the throtle response is not very good with my short headers 11'' (280mm).

Second emails from MTW

Hello Daniel,

We have seen on the picture that it is one of the first pipes you have. You need a header length of 360 mm with e.g. 28 /10 Mejzlik, but with 26/12 or 27/10 a header length of 280 mm would be acceptable. The current pipe is also 680 mm, however, the first part from beginning to first ring is longer that is why the header can be shorter. If you think the current pipe suits you better, you could contact Desert Aircraft. They have our pipes on stock.

Hope we have been of help.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards,
Volker Weiershäuser
p.p. Maike Strauss

Finally, here is a good graph that Pé Reivers (Netherlands) developped with different headers lenght.

Hope it helps
Daniel

Hello
Here is an update of my set up:
1) I ran around 15 gallons of gas mixed with Belray H1R at 50:1 this summer. I can not get more than 6400 RPM on Mejlzick 28x10 with warm engine and 6500 RPM on cold engine. The compression is very bad (low and weak) and 3 weeks ago i did a dead stick. I decided to replace the engine with a new one that has 3 gallons.

2) The new DA-100 engine has about 5 gallons and i can get 6730 RPM on the first start of the day and 6650 RPM after landings with warm engine and Mejlzick 28x10. The MTW pipes rip the prop like crazy and i am looking for bigger load like 3 blades!!

The first one will be sent to DA for inspection and the other one is my pride and joy!

Daniel

Is it possible to run smoke on these ES pipes?

Yep, you tap the headers for the smoke inlet whether it's pipes or cans.

Thanks for your answer! I'm still trying to decide between BMB and ES. Folks say that ES are not that good at hard competition flying. So i'm in dead end.

I'd go with the new MTW pipes. They're the RE2 for 50 singles and 100cc twins and the RE3 for 75/85 singles and 150/170 twins.

With what they are better than BMB ones? It's just easier for me to get those.

I spoke with a dealer who used to sell BMB and he said the quality was pretty bad. I ended up going KS1090 on my setup.

I would go KS or MTW if I was you.
