This will be one of those - non replies - sorta.
I agonized over paying over $600 for my GP Patty Wagstaff replacement too! ( flown for over two years and sold to a foamy-flier!! Yeah for him!! ). Wondering the same $$ for value thing. I'm willing to bet cha, you won't be disappointed! The Aeroworks was a contender with the EF YAK in my decision. They both look fantabolus! Let me tell ya, the quality these guys are spec'ing is far from what ARFS use to be. These kits will meet or exceed your expectations! Do it! You will be frekin' out over how easy the assembly is - and the QB - I can only imagine. You will count the frounds during the assembly process on one hand - and those will most likely end up being your fault! ![]() Now - my excitement over my YAK is the motivating force to post to your query. I must have had 12 50cc sized to cull through and well the EF YAK won out- even with the few extra things I have to do to get her airborne. Check er out - this is a 88"w.s. BIG BEAST and builds out at 15 - 17 #'s. Go "Biggie Sized" for no extra weight penalty or cost! http://www.extremeflightrc.com/html/88yak54.html It is a crime that I have not take a picture of my SD Extra and the EF YAK hanging next to each other ! EF YAK is an easy +20% larger and will be same weight. Last edited by jaguar bone; 07-26-2007 at 10:09 PM. |

I have an Aeroworks 50cc Yak and highly recommend it as a the next plane for your son. It truely is a quick build in that the alierons and elevators have already been assembled for you. This saves a lot of time in the building process. The canopy, cowl, and covering make the plane stand out like no other.
Now that I have given you all of the positives about the plane, let me tell you my concerns. It builds out a little heavy in my opinion (over 17 lbs.) Also the landing gear area is weak. The first thing you should do is strengthen this area, as any side loading on the landing gear will result in a rip out (i.e. landing and giving the plane a generous amount of left/right rudder to turn it). That said, I have been pleased with Aeroworks customer service and look forward to buying another one of their planes soon. |

You might want to be considering a Wild Hare.

I actually flew a QB 50cc Yak. It had a BME 50 on it, and it wasn't a powerhouse, but still enough to fly IMAC style, and dabble with the 3D. Freaked this dude out on take off, though.
Craven said I ain't got BALLS if I don't freak this dude out during the flight!!! Ok, I'm up for the challenge!!! Snap-A-Saurus on take off, to a 3/4 inside 3D loop, to a full power parachute!!!!!!!! This dude dropped 10# in the first 10 seconds of the flight!!!!!!! Then proceeded to fly it like I fly my 35, and 3D aileron was too fast for me!!!!! I usually beg for more aileron!!!!! Not this plank!!!! Needed a bit more 3D elevator, and rudder was ok. Then the ignition pack wanted OUT, and I do mean OUT in a BAD WAY!!!!!! I was afraid that the pack would come unplugged in a odd attitude, and I could damage this dudes plane..... Not today BOYZ!!!!!! I had to clear the runway from the IDIOT!!!!!!!! Several passes, and he still didn't clear out, so a quick attention getter, and he was MOVING fast!!!!!! Clear runway!!!! 3 point landing, and this dude was happy!!!!!! Happy his plane come back in 1 piece!!!! HAHAHA!!! All in all, if someone wanted a 50cc size bird, than I'd say get this one....... I'm not fond of YAKS, cuz they make me want to YAK!!!!!!!

A friend of mine has the AW 50cc Yak and it flew great. I have their 50cc Extra 260 and the quality was top notch. You can't go wrong with their planes.

All of the Aeroworks planes are built top notch. They do build a little heavier than some but this is for durability, which I see as an asset. I don't think the plane is really any more expensive than the others. The hardware you get in the kit is top quality. You will not need to replace or upgrade anything. With many other kits the hardware is really not up to par and by the time you upgrade it, it's not cheaper than AW. You can buy from AW with confidence.
