I am thinking about buying a T-Rex 450SA. Horizon has a combo for $269.00. The 450 SE goes for $549.00.
This will be my second helicopter (the first was a Blade CX2). What do you think about the 450SA? I'm sure the SE version is better but since I'm most likely going to make a lawn dart out of it, I'm reluctant to spend the additional $$$. Is a 3 cell 1320 mAh pack enough? (I have several) |

For the most part...about the only difference is the airframe...SE being carbon fiber and the SA being aluminum. Use a 2100 or 2200 mah battery on it...unless you like 3 minute flights.

I am a relatively new owner of a 450SA. I have not had a heli for about 12 years and I was barely in forward flight back then. (Concept 30) I set it up with a DX7, DS285s and a 3400G on the tail. I have flown a couple of Blades. What can I say about the 450? Smooooooooth. I have flown this heli in moderate wind, I am getting into faster forward flight with it and having a blast. I use 2070 or 2100 three cells. I fly them for 6-7 minutes and put them on my CellPro. They are at about 50% and recharge in about 15-20 minutes on the 2C auto rate. I have let a couple of the 50 sized gas heli pilots I know fly it. They have both been impressed, much to their surprise. They said it would take them a long time to dial in a gasser as well it flew. You will not be disappointed with it. I have flown about 30 packs through it and the worst mishap I have had is a blade strike on a large Japanese beetle. He went flying and chipped the paint on my blade.
$15 and keep going.Have fun.

The SA is fine to start with, you can replace the plastic parts with metal as parts wear out or break.

I have flown most of the 450 size helis out there and i think the the TT Mini Titan is probably the easiest to learn how to fly. It flies much more like a 50 size heli. I fly mine in up to 25-30mph winds and it's hardly effected. Plus its very durable. Theyre about $250 from heli proz and require no upgrades for hard 3D.
