My G38 w/CH EI weighs 54oz (3.375 lbs)with ignition, sw harness, battery and muffler, according to my postal scale. Also, I don't have near $380 in it. No one can really say how much power any particular engine/prop installation will produce; too many variables. My G38 looks like a no-brainer to me. I'm sure it'll be more than enough power.

The RC Guys know about power loading; which means the model wasn't designed for a 50CC engine. However, they aren't about to lose a sale. They'd let you put a Chevy small block on it if you wanted to. They also know that guys who hang on a 50cc engine are going to go full throttle at times no matter how they say they'll fly it, so they tell you to put flying wires on the tail in the hope you won't pull it off.

It's up to you what engine you hang on it but this satement I keep hearing that, "I'll throttle back and fly it scale," is wearisome to me." Shoot, when you build a hot rod, you stick your foot in it now and then. I sure did.

I just thought I'd ask....

I would like to hear about anyones experience with the covering on the RC Guys Super D??? Good/bad??

I have read several posts online about the covering, some not too good... I for one think that the pics you see of the plane look awesome!! Still, just curious.

Just thinking about it made me wonder if the guys who were having problems were running smoke... I know that sometimes the oil residue can make the covering start to lift.

Happy Flying!!

The covering on my RC Guys Decathlon is delamenating in places (top clear layer is separating from the color layer underneath). The white is starting to look a bit blotchy. I did my Decathlon electric with scale power. It flys nice and slow. Here is the thread on RC Groups.

there is a huge thread on this plane over at RCU. Seems guys are are all over the board as far as engine choice. I think a 35-40 cc would work but then again it goes back to power/weight etc

good luck

A guy I work with just got one. We just went to the parking lot to check it out. Its a nice built arf and the covering looks good. He has a 2.70 Saito twin that needed a home. Thats what he will use. It looks like the valve covers will be sticking out of the cowl but who cares it will make up for it with a cool sound.

I would like to bump this thread for any info from anyone. Curious if there as been any findings I have a DA50 that I want to put into a scale airframe.

Anyone have any gripes with this airframe? The cost seems right, and you get what you pay for, but for $399..

I want a Decathlon, but dont have the room for a 47%

I'm thinking seriously about buying one also. I think I'm going to put a DLE30 in mine though. If I sell my Saratoga or Toledo Special soon, I'll place my order.

Just got one dropped of last night that i am putting together for a friend. It is going to have a DA50, fast servos and a light weight fiji bottle for the tank. If you can put a heave 40cc in it a da50 is a perfect match.

I have a DLE 30 in mine . Flys well although I have never tried to hover. Using an JFX 18x8. Good uplines and slows well for landing, big loops. Rudder is very powerful, this has made for some interesting cross wind take offs. No ground loops and no tip stalls . Nothing like the smaller SD's. My only complaint is putting on the struts, somewhat tedious . I'm going to modify the connections to use clevis pins similar to the H9 cub set ups.
