Yeah same here. We see it everywhere. It makes it look like a pattern plane.

are the wings built up or foam? same construction method as on the 42% extra?

looks really good - all you need now is a 540 ( hint hint )
You had to work pretty hard to get the 100cc to 29 pounds. You get 29 pounds by not trying at all to keep it light. Lightly equipped, DA powered 100cc Extras are coming in at around 27 pounds, easy. My BME-powered one was 25.5 pounds. Cans, big batteries, powerboxes, pilot figures, etc. were not considered when obtaining the bottom-line weight.
I can tell you that there is likely no way to get an ARF plane this big in at under 38 pounds unless dedicated weight-saving techniques are used.
It is most definitely going to take:
single 8711 or 9156 servos per elevator half
two of the same on the rudder instead of three
dual servos per aileron (looks like that is already how it's set up)
lightweight batteries - meaning not nimh's and not 5200 li-ions. More like dual 2100 lipos or dual 2300 A123's on Rx and a 1400-1650 4-cell nimh on the ignition.
stock mufflers
CF or no spinner at all
no pilot figure
a few lightening holes here and there

Following that, I bet you can get in the 38 pound range...

Bodywerks: yeah I did not go and try to save a lot of weight but nothing extravegant either. The plane has all factory hardware except titanium links, all 5955tg's ( 2 on rudder ) w/fromeco batts( 2-4800 , 1-2400 ), smart-fly regulator & power expander, carbon prop, fiberglass spinner and pilot, DA 100 w/stock muffs - no smoke. doesn't need all that batt but they can go into a 40% later.

I understand its hard to keep production weights consistent as balsa grades vary constantly and balsa weight can vary with humidity also ( humid here in OK ).

I'm, sure I could kill a pound or so by going all carbon on tubes and gear.

I fly a 37.5 % yak factory hardware manual says 38 to 40 pounds so I'm guessing 40 pounds.I fly at 7200 ft and this thing defies gravity hovers no problem DA 150 std muff. So i wouldn't sweat over 2 pounds. If it lives up to the standard of the 260 you will love it

Congrats to Rocco on another great aircraft.

I'd really like to see this in the same scheme as the 75cc Extra with the red/black/white and checkers. That would be hot!

I also agree that an Edge 540T and Cap232 would be great next!

I can't wait until the're available... Have an engine sitting here ready to go, and a spot cleared out in the trailer. This will be my first 40% and I had a question about the batteries. I noticed that someone posted about using dual 2300 A123's on the Rx. Do you guys think that's enough? I've been flying my 35% Edge for four years on dual 1450 mah Nimh batteries with no trouble. I was planning to stay with dual 2500 mah 6v Radical RC packs. Just a little shy to the A123's as of now.

You'll need to run a power expander for sure. The A123s seem pretty solid. You could always go with dual 5 cell Elite 3600mah NiMh packs. NoBS makes the best packs and they are a great price to. http://hangtimes.com/giantrxpacks.html
That's how I would set it up.

Rocco,

Any chance of a new scheme in the near future? Something cleaner along the lines of the new 260 scheme or your python scheme?

In terms of amp delivery availability, the A123's are WAY more than enough. I am running two on my 35%er. they only weigh 5.5 ounces each and don't require regulators. If you are looking to save weight while not having to worry about votage drop, the killer setup would be two of the A123's plugged directly into a Smart-fly Power expander Pro (no switches), and then use the smart-switch integrated in the power expander. This would make for a 13 ounce power system for your receiver that will flat out-perform li-ions. The only slight downfall is the lower capacity, but a 40%er only burns about 650mah per flight, so you'd be good for 5-6 flights, easy. If you need more, throw a quick charge on them (they can be safely charged at 5C+) and you're good to go.

Ditto. I understand the marketing strategy behind this scheme, and I do like it, but something different would be welcome.

I agree, about a new simpler scheme for this plane. I saw the plane in Tucson, I have flown all of the smaller sizes. If it flies as good as they do, the big one should be a winner. However, I would like it in a different scheme, or all white so I could do my own.

Does any one have an idea when they will be available??? I also saw it at the shootout and it is one huge yak the cowl is gigantic. I want one. It said they will start at 2200 though. I am sure it will drop.

What would be the great advantage of 2300mah A123's over 6v Nimh 2500mah cells? The weight difference is minimal and I already have chargers for these cells, plus they are proven to work. I can still run them through the Power Expander Pro with the same set-up right?

I like everything about this plane except the scheme. The scheme alone would prevent me from buying it. Please give us another option! I love the QB series planes. I've owned 3.
