Well, 4 months ago I maidened my Carden Cap 35% with DA - 100. I bought the airframe used. Installed the same servos that the previous pilot used. I assumed the control horns that came with the servos were the right size for 3D. The maiden flight went well. High rates were touchy,, I thought. But now after 5 flights, I realized, I have only begun.
I have been dealing with high rates and expo settings. I finally figured out how to tame the beast. But I measured my throws and realized I am no where near the max rates. AIL MAX RATES 1 1/4 IN ELEV MAX 2 1/4 RUD MAX 2 1/2 My control horns are 1 in long the aileron servo arm Hitec HS 5945MG is 1 inch rudder and elevator FUTABA S9351 servo arm 7/8 in. Where can I get longer servo arms. Is this the fix. This should be a whole new plane with full throws. Thanks, Forrest |

Forrest, Do you have a way to find out what size servo arms the previous pilot used?
The reason I ask is if the pilot set the plane with a certain size arm, that would be the best to use so that everything is linear. If you can find that out, that would be the best for the plane. |

Airwild makes some pretty decent arms. As well as Hangar 9

dont get away from that 1:1 ratio. The arms are 1" , the horns should be 1" from the hingeline to the horn hole that you are using....

We need the control horn distances from the hinge line to the outside hole of the horn to answer your question. But the SWB are my favorite.
Your horns are likely 1.25 - 1.5 inch. Let us know the numbers. Like others have said if you have a 1.5 inch horn distance then a 1.25 arm would likely give you enough throw. Don't exceed the 1:1 ratio as others have said. You need the mechanical advantage. Last edited by JoeAirPort; 08-15-2007 at 08:28 AM. |

Thanks for all the replies guys. I will take measurements tomorrow and get back with you. I have taken a look at SWG and that where I will buy the parts. I have taken overall measurements of the length from control arm to center of servo screw hole.
Now I am trying to figure out how long the heavy duty titanium turnbuckles need to be. thanks, more to follow. Dubro Swivel Ball Links 4-40 |
