I recall a post where Mike McConville indicated what the weights were for various configurations of his new 35% Extra 260.
Can any one point to that post? (I have tried several searches to no avail.) |

The prototype that Brendan has been flying is 28.9 pounds with Mikes setup in it. It has a DA 100 with headers and MTW 75 cans and lipo batts in it. 7 8711 servos on surfaces, only one on rudder, cant remember the number on the throttle servo. Without the headers and cans it will be lighter.

And I believe that all three are 4,000mah lipo batteries, which probably weigh about 6 ounces each. There's room to drop at least 6 ounces by going with a typical fromeco setup of 2600's, or about 10 ounces getting a bit more creative with smaller liPos, or A123 cells.
Then drop another pound by dropping the cannisters and you're easily in the 27 pound range. There is room to drop even more weight with a little lightening of the airframe, CF spinner, CF wing tube, and lighter wheels, etc. |

a 35% at 29 lbs. where is the problem or do you need to be lighter for 3D only???

Roger, lighter is almost always better - IMO, at least. Nothing wrong with 29 pounds at or near sea level, and the vids of this plane at the Nall show some impressive pull-out at that weight. Still, I am shooting for under 28 pounds with tuned pipes on this one, and I see no reason I won't be able to do it.

I know, I sort of cringed at that weight at first too. Considering I think that plane should weigh 26.5-27 MAX with todays technology and lighter materials. I think it will still fly great.... just a little more tubby that I thought it would be.

I agree with lighter is better. The Yak I'm building is a 35% but I beleive it is slightly bigger then this one and it will come out at near 30lbs, lots of wing area, and I have installed a EVO 150 so I don't have to worry about tuned pipes and peaking out the engine performance, Not being a Hucker, by choice and also I'm not good enough ![]() so it should be OK Roger

Dont worry about 29# on this plane. I agree lighter is better but at what cost. My AW 260 w/ DA100 pulls absolutely incredible w/ a 28x10 @29#. I'm sure it will be more than adequate for classes up to advanced as my Aero-Works is.
