Default Dual Elevators on Hitec Eclipse

Hey Guys,
Having a bit of a problem setting up dual elevator servos on the eclipse. I was under the assumption, from looking at the manual, that I could use a custom mix setting channel 2 as the master and channel 5 as the slave. This doesn't seem to be working. I saw a thread regarding this radio and 'split' elevators, are we talking about the same thing? I'm also assuming that if this is possible, that subtrims would not carry over, making it a moot point anyway. Would a matchbox accomplish this without buying another 5955 thats reversed or digital programmer?

Or do I need to be looking at an 8 channel radio? Recommendations? Any assistance is much appreciated!

You must use channel 7 as slave, I have been using this for years

when using 7 as slave you will have to set it to a switch. DO DOT FORGET THE SWITCH. Also your trim will only trim channell 2. You will have to land and adjust channell 7 trim with subtrim, then you have to reset the endpoints to match.

You can't buy a 5955 reversed a programmer reverses it. Your best option is to borrow a programmer and match/reverse the servos then run them on a y to channell 2.

Dan is right on with that, your best bet is to "Y" harness both servos to channel 2 and then manually trim them as evenly as you can, then trim with the radio. Hitec just wont slave two elevators without using a switch and being able to trim only channel 2. The "Y" will do everything you need it to do.

Usind a mix via an active chanel is just about the best way to have a crash . At some
point you will make a mistake and it will cost you a new plane . I ran into the same
problem when I started flying 2x2 pattern planes a few years ago . I tried using
a servo reversing Y lead but they are subject to all sortes of issues
(induced RF and heat) so in the end I had a few of choices .

1 :- stick with the reversing Y lead which has probs

2:- use the ch7 mix (to dangerous)

3 :- usa a match box

4 :- Buy a new radio 93..

I went for the RX because It solved the prob in that plane and all the ones that
followed , that RX is now almost three years old and still going strong .

If your Eclipse has newer software (QPCM) you'll find an "Ailevator" mix available that will provide what you're looking for.

However, Hitec's official line is that this mix is not supported so "use it at your own risk" -- but that's pretty much Hitec's line on everything.

I just bought a JR 9X II (that's 9303 in the USA) because I found my Eclipse 7 far too limited for flying much more than regular glow-powered sports model.

It's looking to me like this upgrade to the JR is the *best* money I've spent in a very long time.

Hitec stuff is fine for bottom-end stuff but I don't think you'll find many larger models using Hitec transmitters -- and that's not just a coincidence, there's a message there :-)

I just had the same problem setting up dual elevators on my wild hare giles.
I ended up useing a Y harness and a guy at my local hobby shop pull one of the servos apart and revesed it from the inside some how. I think this works best for the eclipse cause theres no expensive reverses or odd control throws.
Hope this helps

That's the way I had used it for 2 years in 33% planes like an Laser 200 and an Krill Velox. Never let me down.

Hitec basically called the Ailevator function that showed up in some Eclipse’s an Anomaly. Guess it’s a feature in the Optic Six (not sure). When I heard on another message board that newer Eclipse users had this function I contacted Hitec to see if mine could be reprogrammed. Said no can do because they have no idea how it got into the Eclipse programming in the first place.

Like you said Hitec’s position is; those with the anomaly are using the function at there own risk.

The Eclipse is a good radio for the price but just too limiting for anything other than general sport flying.

Thanks for the thoughts guys.
The channel 7 switch mix works but now there's the reversing problem. So its pretty much as I figured. Its been a good radio for general sport, but appears I'm outgrowing it. For the 'on down the road'.. I'd love to get one of the new JR 93's, but $1,000.00 is not the answer right now. I'm working on my first gasser, its a 29% 260, so thats not practical right now. The Futaba 9C is around 3-400.00 and looks to be a good next step. Anybody have one and want to chime in? Plus it would work with my hitec products. A DX7 would be nice, but now its back to 7 channel.

For the short term, to get this plane in the air and start breaking the engine in, I'm considering a matchbox. As mentioned, a reversing y is prone to problems and I agree. You can get reversed servo's. Servo City sells a variety of servo's such as the 5955 that can be ordered as reversed. (Which, in hindsight I should have done to start..). But now there's another 114.00. A matchbox seems like it would be the best fix for this. Granted I have no experience with them, but I don't see how it COULDN'T work.. anyone want to agree or disagree?

Screwed up a wing couple of evening ago while installing linkage... don't ask.. so I've got a bit time to sort through this issue while I cool down and get another wing ordered..

Your best bet would be buy a programmer, you do not need a matchbox with hitec servos. The programmer can reverse, match center, match end, program failsafe, set deadband and set speed.

Also for the awitch channell 7 thing in the pmix screen change the numbers from negative 100% to positive 100% This will reverse 7. You can send me your 5955, and I can match and reverse them with my programmer.

Interesting point. Let me change the percentages and see what happens. Meantime I'll ask around the club to see if anyone may have a programmer, otherwise I may take you up on that. Thanks!
