The wife and I are leaving on a week long coastal road trip. We are going from Waco to Houston, Galveston, and then south. Any input on things to see, do or eat?

Canardman,
Take Hwy. 6 to Navasota. Turn left on 105 and head toward Conroe. About 10 miles from Conroe on your right (Across from the entrance to April Sound) there is Fajita Jacks. Great place to eat TexMex. Continue on in until you get to I-45 and head north on 45 until you get to beautiful uptown New Waverly, Texas. (I know..... You're heading north away from Galveston but you gotta have a little diversion!) Come on out to Tri-County Barnstormers and put in a couple of flights. If the wife is getting too hot, tell her to go have a seat in the air-conditioned club house or the ceiling fans on the deck ought to keep her cool while you get in your flying fix. When you are through you can then head south on 45 and go through Houston. Hungry again? Otto's barbecue on Memorial ought to take care of the hunger pangs.(Tell George and Barbara Bush "hello" for us all..... They eat there a couple of times a month.) I-45 South of Houston headed to Galveston has been under construction since the end of WWII so I wouldn't recommend it. Here's where your ol' Flying Giant Bud is gonna steer ya right!!! Take a right on the South Loop and head for Hwy. 288 south. (288 South...... Better known as a NASCAR practice track!) Head on down to Alvin R/C club and look up Phil Vance. He'll get you an invite to fly there. Put in a few more flights. (Tell the wife that the clubhouse is air-conditioned and she can look at all the historical pictures of the club members and their planes!) I suppose you'll be gettin' hungry by now....... Get on to Galveston and get a bite to eat on the STRAND or somewhere on the Seawall. The seafood is gonna be GREAT! Before you get off of the Island, take a left on 61st St. Go down about 3/4 of a mile and hang a right. The wife can go to Moody Gardens and you can go to Lone Star Flight Museum. You are both looking a good air-conditioned entertainment! (Notice...... I'm keeping her cool while you make your aviation entertainment dollar really s-t-r-e-t-c-h!) I guess you need to hit the road so get on with it! Take any side road along the coast and you'll hit Victoria sooner or later. While there in Victoria, check out the local flying field. (Yep..... you guessed it! Air-conditioned clubhouse!) You can get a bite to eat anywhere in town.... It's all good eatin' so pick something! While there you can go to The La Lometa Opry House and get your culture injection! I guess by then you ought to head North through San Antonio. Lots of good hobby shops and 4 or5 good fields to fly at. Sorry......... No A/C that I know of! The last time I flew up there we had the A/C cranked up pretty good in the motor home! Try the River Walk for something good to eat. Take I-35 north and you'll be heading toward Waco. I'm supposing the little lady is gonna want you to have one last stab at a flying gig so go on out to Speegleville Park and tell all the H.O.T.M.A.C. boys hello for us. (I think the kitchen was air-conditioned so have a good time! Hope this helps in your endeavor to keep cool and see some interesting things..... Hope we kept the wife cool while you vacationed. WT ![]() PS If you DID keep this itinerary and she hadn't killed ya yet, you can always come stay at our air-conditioned clubhouse at New Waverly! Bring a plane!!

Man, that is just what I want to do... Unfortunately the wife has other ideas. She has stated "no airplanes" So, other than the museum at Galveston, and NASA, there will be no airplanes for me.
