Introduction

Highslide JS       Highslide JS

The TNC Tachometer is a classic design that's been around since the mid 70's, and in the last few years, has been entirely reinvented and improved by our friends from Fromeco. The latest revision of the TNC Tachometer was released in August of 2007, and has again received a technology overhaul gaining an incredible .05% accuracy, faster processing and firmware, and the TNC uses a highly sensitive optical sensor to increase accuracy and ease of use at long distances. The story of the TNC tach is 30 years in the making, and we are absolutely ecstatic that Fromeco is carrying the torch.

The TNC Tachometer comes packaged with concise operating instructions, hermitically sealed in plastic from the factory. The unit includes a brand new 9v battery for sustained operation.

Product Specifications

Product: Fromeco TNC Tachometer
Manufacturer: Fromeco Scale Avionics LLC
Power: Standard 9v battery
Accuracy: +-.05%
Measures 2 or 3 blade propellers

Product Performance

The TNC Tachometer is a single purpose device. It reports the current RPM of a motor. And it does it well! Using the TNC is a piece of cake; turn it on, select if you are using a two or three bladed prop, and point it at the rotating prop for an accurate reading. The crisp LCD readout on the tach reports back current RPM readings, as well as logs the peak RPM encountered during performance tests. Cool! There's no guessing the maximum RPM, it's all right there. When you're done, turn it off and throw it in your toolbox. The durable plastic case will keep the electronics safe.
Another VERY cool feature of the new TNC tach is the ability to take measurements from up to six feet away from the spinning prop. In the past, traditional designs have required the user to hold the tach up to six inches away from the prop creating an element of danger for the operator. The Fromeco boys have eliminated this all together, and have created a new element of safety for us hobbyists.

Conclusion

Fromeco products have become legendary over the years for performance, functionality, and moreover, durability. The TNC Tachometer is a classic and affordable device that performs exactly as advertised, and is a must have for every flight box.

Pros: Easily readable LCD screen, accurate, shows maximum RPM measured, will stay on with a flick of the switch. Durability, and price.
Cons: The on off switch can inadvertently be left in the on position. Be sure to turn it off for maximum battery life.

This is the best tach out on the market..... Let me tell ya, no need to be inches from the prop you can hold it 3-4 feet away with perfectly accurate readings. Unbelivable accuracy and crystal clear display... 2 thumbs up for Mike and Kurt.

If you havnt had the opportunity to deal with those boys from Fromeco your missing out on the best customer service in the industry hands down......

Old tach has momentary on/off button, and improved optics. Kurt/Mike can add to this...

I really love mine, bought last year, not newer version, but super fine just the same. It is the safest tach I have ever used.

Any plans to add feature for 4 blade props? Or can I set it on 2 blade and then divide by 2?

That's a good question, not sure. 4 blade props are unique for sure, this would be a good question for Kurt and crew in the Fromeco support forum. Thanks Radrich!

What's the asking price for this required gadget? Inquiring mind wants to know (so we can prepare an appology to the significant other for spending that much money on such a small item!)

Hey - I am a big Fromeco supporter and a fan of the TNC tach, however this thing though very accurate, still needs some work:
- the battery should have a snap on connection like most devices that use a 9v batt as the current set up of just pushing against a metal plate is not reliable and can give false readings
- the switch should have a shield rim around it. As it is now if you put it in a case the button can be depressed by something pressing on it and thereby kill the battery
