You will need to open the cowl still. Otherwise the motor will overheat!

I am thinking I will open it up a little more, but with the 6" x 5" hole just aft of the cans on the fuse and the 5" x 4" hole on the underside of the cowl the exit holes are at least more than 2 times the entrance hole, probably more around 3 times. And I want some of the fresh air moving over the cans as well to help cool them.

I'll probably leave it for now, and take my laser temp gun and do some testing at the field when were getting ready to fly it!

Nice job Sleepy!

Question for you and the other followers of this Plane; shouldn't the cans be boxed in? or a tunnel? to keep the fuse from filling up with air, heat, etc?

thanks, Ward

I'm going by the directions that came with the kit, But I think the large hole aft of the cans is enough of a low pressure area that it will actually draw out the hot air enough that cooling will not be an issue.

Did the plane come with the standoffs? If not, what length are they? I have DA 100 laying around looking for a home.
Nice thread!

Any thoughts on the ZDZ 80 Super on a standard muffler as a power plant for this model?

The kit comes with the stand off's. And they fit perfectly.
As for using an 85, if the motor is getting the claimed rpm's and can spin a 27 inch prop, why not.
I just wonder how that would effect the balance. I think the plane was designed around the weight of a 100/116 motor. So you may need to change the equipment layout.

Hey Sleepy, Nice work, but what are you trimming this zip ties with ? I think you can cut them alittle closer so as to not cut yourself when reaching into the fuse.

Looks like you are a happy camper and everything is going along smooth other then the Power Expander thing ? I am still recovering from all those earlier MONEY SHOTS.

When do we get to see it fly ? Ought to be ready by next weekend, but the way things are moving along.

Don't worry. Sleepy needs to order a new Power Expander.

I had family things to take care of this afternoon, but I did sneak down the basement a little while ago.

Ok. I have the stabs all servo'ed up and the rudder servo and linkage installed.
and all the wiring and tie-downs accomplished.
Also throttle wire ran and secured.

When doing the stabs, I had to open up the holes in the stabs just a bit where the servo arm comes through. I opened the entire hole around 1/4". Not a big deal, but just thought I would note it.

SO... I have to put the servos in the wings and I think I'm pretty much done.

OH... and mount the canopy.. (pilot is already secure)

So truth be told, I think I have around a total of 7 hrs in this thing now?!?!

SO .. hows that for ARF!

Very nice but I don't like some of the features of the H9 planes. Like the Elevator servo placement. But that's just me. Nice plane though.

The elevator servos placement is AWESOME. If you need to take the stabs off, you do not need to take your linkage apart, hence it won't have failures, or you won't have to re align your linkage every time you put the plane together.
I think Hangar 9 did an outstanding job with this plane!

Huh? How else would you mount it? That's the way my Composite Arf is, the way my BVM Edge is, my GP Cap is, and my friend's Dalton and Carden is.
