Default Accu-Cycle Elite

Has anyone out there used an Accu-Cycle Elite charger on their Li-Ions (Fromeco or TBM) to charge them. The charger is made to charge up to 3 cells of this kind of batteries, I'm wanting to change over to these batteries and if I don't need to buy another charger I can save a few bucks and apply the cost of a new charger on something else.

I'm really puzzled about all this new technology Only thing that I have used in the past was Nicads and Nimh's. The manual explains it and says it's pretty much plug and play for the Li-ions with the Elite. I just don't want anything to be exploding or catching on fire, would rather buy another charger than to have that happen!

I use the elite for my fromeco all the time no problems. Just input the battery type, volts and mah and it will automatically set the rate for you. Its a no brainer.

Yep, I use the elite to charge everything including nimh, nicd, and lipos. Haven't messed with lions yet, but it'll work with them too.

It'll work fine on all battery chemistries we use... I've used mine on Li-poly, Li-ion and Nimh without issues...

If you buy Fromeco, remember they only recommend charging a 1 amp regardless of pack size... After selecting voltage & millamps, the Accu-Cycle will attempt to set peek charge voltage itself... Just reset it to 1 amp for Fromeco...

Your accu-cycle will work great. Pick the lithium option and set the voltage at 3.6v/cell for li-ion. The 3.7 option is for the li-poly cells.

You can get an adapter so it will work with the A123's

Yeah, 3.7 I thought it should be set at 7.4 volts the voltage of the pack. Correct me if I'm wrong I don't want to destroy my new batteries!

We were charging (2) 4800 Li-ons at the same time with our Accu-Cycle at the setting that the Accu-Cycle decided was correct after punching in the battery type, etc. After a few minutes the charger caught on fire and the 2 batteries puffed up. After that happened we bought the Fromeco Reliacharger for their Li-ons and have had no further issues. What I needed to do with the Accu Cycle was adjust the charge rate down to about 1 amp, rather than let it decide.

Really? I wonder how? Don't you have to monitor each cell? Also the charger only does 2 amps so the time would be slower than the max A123 charge rate. But I would like to know this. That's why I didn't buy those cells from you now, I'd have to buy a new charger. Wasn't ready for all that.

Yea--with the Elite you are limited to 2A--the Cellpro4S is a 4A charge

the adapter adjusts the cutoff voltage for the A123's--if you use the Elite setting it cuts off too high.

Here is the adapter http://www.slkelectronics.com/lipodapter/index.htm but it does not balance..I guess you can hook a blinky in somewhere to keep the cells balanced..
