Im a looking for a good prop for my Brillelli 46 which I have in an EF 74" Yak. I currently have a Master Airscrew 20x8 which is reasonable. The two props that I am looking at are either the Mejzlik 21x8 2 blade or Mejzlik 20x10 3 blade. Im wondering whether the 3 blade would be too much for the engine/airframe combo.
Thanks, James |

I quite like the idea of the 20x10 Mejzlik 3-Blade, would this be too much?

I would go with the 21x8. Some people are even dropping to a 20x8 to reduce the thrust and make hovering easier. With a 21x8 the throttle can be so low it is hard to keep it from climbing or dropping. I do believe the 20x10 3 blade my be a lot of load. I would go with the 21x8, or even a 20x8 in a CF prop.

Would the revs still be within an acceptable range with a lighter carbon 20x8? Im running 7000rpm static with a heavier Master Airscrew 20x8.

The Master Airscrew is not a wooden prop, its a plastic composite.

I have a brill. 46 on my hanger 9 260 started out with a troy (tbm) 21x8 and now have a xoar 20x8 on it. This is the prop that Scott reccomended to me and it is fantastic, better and lighter, great vertical pull. Plane weight is 13.4lbs

That engine has a no load red line of 13,500 rpm. You will never, ever get close to over revving it with any prop 18" or larger.
I like wood props for a couple reasons. They are cheaper, and they spool up faster than a CF prop because of the lower weight. Less flywheel effect. On the bench, A Xoar will out pull the same size Mejzlik CF prop. I have never ran a Vess, but from what customers have told me, they pull even better. |
