I have used the sheathed cables before with good results on planes up to a 50cc as long as it is a fairly straight run.

what plane? what engine?

I have used the sheathed cables too in smaller glow planes.... just make sure it is installed so there is NO flex...

for bigger stuff, I prefer something a bit more solid... but that is just me

Let me tell you a good reason to disable the spring on the throttle. Just last weekend, I was out flying, last flight of the day, flights usually last around 11 min. I took off and was farting around with flat-spins and inverted flat spins. Would get some altitude then put my 88" into a nice flat spin and pull out around 40ft. Well I was up maybe 1 min into the flight and the first flat spin I pulled out of the throttle went to full and I had no response. The rest of the controls were fine, so my first thought was something on the linkage came loose. Well, I was not looking to fly around at full throttle for another 10 min, but hey that's better than nothing. So as I'm flying around at full throttle doing really nice circles and figure eights I wiggle the stick and the motor goes dead. Land the plane and find out the servo tray came loose.

To make a long story short, if I had the spring on the carb, I would have lost the plane in a corn field as I pulled out of a flat-spin way to low. But with not having the spring, the linkage problem I had (which was due to servo tray coming loose) saved the plane. It's better to have some throttle than none at all, and that spring being there gives you none if something goes bad. Some may argue that's it's a necessary evil, but I would respectfully disagree.

I would disable the spring, and run a hard linkage from the servo to the throttle.

Just my 2cents and experience in the matter.

I disabled my spring and used a direct turnbuckle linkage

I disabled my thottle spring, but I'm using a well-supported cable (sliding through nyrod, and the nyrod is in an outer tube) on my throttle on my 3W 106. Works great for me.
