Default IMAC Engine shut off

I thought I read somewhere that you were required to have two means of engine shut off.
I can not find it in the rules. Does this exist or is throttle trim enough to compete.
I also use a choke servo but have a friend that wants to give it a try and he only has the throttle trim.
Thanks,
Mark

That may be an IMAA rule but I'm not sure either. I'll have to research it myself.

Mark... I've never read that in any IMAC rules. The throttle trim can be used to shut your aircraft down....That's what I've been using for the past 10 years.

Whether its a rule or not, everyone should have a separate kill mechanism for their engines. I've personally had a throttle servo fail and have seen it with others multiple times. Without a kill switch you are gambling. You can use the choke mechanism, but the best and most effective way is with an optical kill switch like ElectroDynamics.

Over here in Australia it is a requirement to compete in IMAC that all gas engines have a separate means of killing the engine, ie. Choke servo, optical kill switch etc. I personally have had 2 throttle servos die, one was on a full power upline the other in straight level flight, both time with the aid of a kill switch I was able to get myself into a position and land. More importantly though its there for safety. Worst case scenario if a plane goes WOT on the pegs or roll out due to throttle servo failure it can be shut down instantly with out danger.

Thanks for the answers guys. I will continue to use a choke servo. It is good to know the the rules though rather than going on rumor.

using the choke is VERY hard on the engine and loads it with Lots of fuel...
I would use a throttle cut off before a choke.....

With my 40%er, I can shut it off with the throttle and with an EDC optical cut off.....
