I have cut the slots as shown on page 87 and 88 of the instructions. When I double checked it this evening I notice that Mike is running a can and Aero-Works thinks that they may not be needed. I am running a wrap around.
Since building this plane I have done a twin cyl. and baffles are very important to get airflow directly over the cyl. and head.
I am sure you are correct and Aero-Works has it right.

Gents,

I Have a question for those who have thier plane built and are using a DA 85. I am in the process of building mine and need some clarification. In the manual it states to use the DA template to mark the cut out to be done and then states to remove the template before cutting. Once this is complete I believe it states to test fit the provided custom DA 85 mount to the motor and then mount it to the firewall. The picture in the manual appears to have the template still installed. To achieve the required 6-7/8" from the firewall to the front of the prop hub on the motor, do you have to keep the template mounted behind the custom DA 85 mount on the firewall, or am I thinking too much into this? Thank you much for any help.

No, the template is only for cutting out. Also make sure to epoxy the hard mount in, and there will be some extra dremeling needed to get full access to the needles and I had to cut some extra out for my throttle and choke linkages to clear...

Thanks for the response. I was a bit worried since I already epoxied the mount to the firewall without the template. I guess I'm in the clear though.

Gents,

For those of you who are using the DA 85cc, could you please give me some guidance on needle settings. I fired it up for the first time today and successfully flew the first flight but it was really rich. I leaned both the bottom and top about 1/8-1/4" and it's still pretty rich. I'm using regular gas with lawboy at a 32:1 ratio. I'm located in San Diego, CA which puts my particular location near sea level. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gentlemen,
I would like to ask a few questions in regards to the Aeroworks 75cc YAK, and NOT the Extra 260, which this thread is about. Yes, I know this is not the Yak thread, but I just thought I'd ask you guys a few questions, in case anyone knows.

1. Does the 75cc Yak use the same length H9 Prolinks for pushrods, as the 75cc Extra 260 does? What length H9 Prolinks are needed on the ailerons, elevators, and rudder IF using push pull????

2. If you look at the 75cc Yak page on Chief A/C's site, you see an underside pic of the 75cc Yak, and it shows NOT a canister tunnel, BUT RATHER a TUNED PIPE tunnel built into the plane.
Is this what guys are using, rather than a canister?

3. What I really need to know, is does anyone know what tuned pipe can be used with this 75cc Yak, and a ZDZ 80??? Anyone ran this setup, or know someone who has? We could really use the help here. I don't suppose anyone knows if there is a carbon fiber tuned pipe that will work with the ZDZ 80 on the 75cc Yak???

Thanks for any help guys. I sure could use it.

You should use an AMT 105 tuned pipe with the ZDZ 80 RVJ. This is proven in testing by Dick Hanson.

I leaned my low end by 1/2 turn after two runs (1/4 per run). Low end was very rich as you noticed. I have left the high end during break in. I am also around 500ft asl. See results in the DA85 pipe thread. 6450rpm on 28x10 Mej on first run.

Finally got mine together, weighing it at.......... 24 lbs.
Seems heavy.
I'm running a ZDZ super on a front exit cannister,
Power Systems Sport Plus
L-Ion batteries (x3) 2600 mAh
Single push/pull rudder servo in the tail.
Choke servo.
I added a pilot.
No CF replacement parts.
No weight reduction attempts.
What weights are others getting? I'm not too worried, I'll fly it anyway.

Peter

MIne was 20.9 pounds with a DA 85 and a cannister, but with MASSIVE weight saving attempts. Your stock aluminum tubes are almost 1/2 pound heavier than CF upgrades, the CF landing gear and ditching the gear cover and cuffs saves another 5 ounces, a CF spinner is another 3-4 ounces lighter, and no pilot is anywhere from 2-6 ounces lighter. There alone, you could save over a pound. In addition to this, I used titanium engine mount bolts and a balsa standoff block to save another 4 ounces, 3X A123 1100 batteries and no switches or power expander which is at least 1/2 pound lighter than your setup(assuming your li-ions are only 2600 each and not 5200). I also took about 3/4 pound out of the airframe and didn't use a choke servo and used a micro throttle servo. Then there are little things that only saved grams, but it all adds up. Bottom line, I am not surprised by your AUW.

Hey guys. Putting one of these together to fly at 5000ft. I have a ZDZ 80 RV with a pitts wrap-around smoke muffler. Will be using carbon tubes and landing gear.

Couple of questions,

1. Do you think the ZDZ will be enough, or should I sell it and get the DA85?

2. What prop do you think for 3D with the ZDZ? I was thinking a Mejlik 26x10.

3. Do the A123 packs run without a regulator? If so, do the new 2.4 receivers handle the voltage of a fully charged A123 ok?

If it's the ZDZ 80 it will be plenty... if it's the ZDZ Super 80 RV-J it will be gobs of power and 26x10 Mej will work great.
You'll be fine without regulators on the A123's and the 2.4 ghz but I haven't had that set-up before so what I know about that is hearsay from other posts I've read.
Cheers,
