Back Spray from. Carb

Hey guys. I have noticed the carb back sprays in to the fuse. I really don't like that as it gets onto the Smart Fly Board.
I'm gonna recoat the inside with thinned epoxy or satin varnish. I'm also looking at putting a light weight bulkhead
to stop the back spray from going any farther than the tank. I took some pictures with a cardboard template that shows
what I am looking at doing. I will ca a couple of small square pieces of wood to each side so the bulk head can just be slide into place.
It will be held down from the foam on the canopy pushing against it. It will atleast keep the spray contained in the front area and then can be wiped
out. Most of the spray looks like it just lands on the bottom of the floor in the front.

2nd idea. Anyone know of a better idea or have done something.

3rd idea. What about a air filter? Probably not huh.

Hi Cory,
This would be the first I've heard of a carb back-spraying. My first thought is...you may have a slight leak at the exhaust header connection. Your residue looks black, like carbon. Your idea is cleaver though, by adding the baffle. Be careful you don't interfere with airflow into the carb. Oh, stay away from the air filters, IMO. Good luck and have fun!

Back Spray from Carb.
Here's what I decided to go with.

1st:
Ok. I came up with something else that looks ok and took hardly any work.
I went ahead and coated a thin layer of thinned epoxy up in the front of the motor box
and ended just in front of the tank. Looks good and should be easy to clean.

2nd:
I put some Monokote white sticker sheet over the holes on the bulkhead just before the wing tube and
over the holes on the bulkhead underneath of the canopy. I think this will keep the spray from getting on my
receiver and Smart Fly Board. Pretty much keep it in the tank area.
Check out the photos!

Cory
Cory,
What engine/carb setup are you getting all that backspray from? Engine runs ok?
Cheers,

Hey. It runs good and after inspecting everything when I had it all apart it really isn't spitting
as bad as I thought. I cut down the oil to 40:1. I think once I get some more gallons thru her and lean it alittle it will not be as bad. They all kinda spit a little and I just don't want anything getting on the Smart-Fly.

Is anyone running a 3-blade? We've got the DA-85 with an MTW110 can. We've also been using the Vess 26A for break in, and now would like to install a 3 blade for IMAC, and, to help out with the balance just a bit. DA recommends either a 24x12 or a 25x12N. Anyone?

Well after maybe 40 flights or so we have decided to stick with our current prop, the Mejzlik 27-10TH. Awesome prop for IMAC, and, thanks to Tony Russo for hookin us up with it!
We also have a bit of backspray like Cory, but, it's not really that bad, and it should subside as we go to the Amsoil 100:1 mix shortly.

Im using a Menz 27x10 with the the DA 85 with a MTW rear cannister. Love this plane with that setup. Being running amsoil 100-1 and on my second gallon. Motor is a mad powerhouse now. Cant say enough about that plane.
