Hey, If any one else has this arf and doesnt plan on using the da-85 let me know i'm looking for that spacer that comes in the arf for use on my plane.

ill post a pic of the part im looking for. The part circled in red is the part i need the most and the drill guide would be helpful also but not the most important.

Gremlin,

I don't believe it's the DA-85, I think it's an older 3W 70.

Actually now that I have about 50 flights on the plane, I find it verticals pretty well. I just tried hovering yesterday and it did well. I have also since seen a few planes that don't climb so well. I am now happy with a 3W70 24x10 Xoar @ 6400 rpm's. I bet a DA85 would rip.

I am building the 75cc also and bought a 4 inch mpi spinner. Very nice but the four inch bolt that TBM said it needed is to large. The shoulder of the bolt bottoms out on the DA85 before it is all the way down on the spinner. Is anyone else having problems with something like this. The plane is awesome, no problems with the build to date. Will put up pics of mounting it in my truck. Should have bought a bigger one.

Spinners are made for many different engines so the shaft length and thread size vary. I too have had this issue but mine was a Dave Brown and the bolt was too short for my 3W. You'll have to work at finding the right bolt.
Good luck with the plane it is a beauty.
Should be a very strong plane with the DA85.

Mark786,
You might want to try putting it on the scale again. You might be suprised how much of that weight was water absorbed from ocean shipping.

You know thats funny as I seem to be getting better vertical than I was at first. Have you had that experience? I will weigh it again but it seems doubtful that the wood could hold that much humidity.

On a 42%er mine held over a pound of water. Not sure how much a 33% will have but it is suprizing. Those containers have so much condensation on the roof its unreal. If you would please post what your findings are.

Need a little help please. Can anyone tell me the basic handling difference between the 75cc Extra and the Yak. I'd be guessing the Yak being slight longer that it was the more Imac suited of the two but then I've been very wrong just recently!
Can't make me mind up wether to go for the Extra or the Yak, its a hard life!
cheers
Robin

Wow, you just opened yourself up for more confusion now that you will get a ton of opinions. Some will be good others will not be so good.
Take mine for what it is worth or what you paid for it.
I think that the Extra is a cleaner airframe. Meaning smoother and less coupling.
The Yak has a larger frontal area allowing better braking for landings and downlines.
This is an advantage in the lower classes were smoother might be better for the advanced classes. I bought the Extra for the cleaner airframe and they advertise about two pounds lighter. Since I had a 3W70 I needed as close to 21 pounds as I could get.
Now I wonder if the Yak would not have been a better choice for me as I fly the lower classes.
I believe that you should pick the one you think looks best.
As I am sure you have heard before, its 90 percent pilot.

Mark did you ever end up weighing it again to see if it lost any weight due to absorbing water during shipping?

I hate to disagree with Mark, but the AW YAK is just about as coupling free as a plane gets. I flew IMAC with mine and we never had to mix the plane. The Extra did need some mixing.

1bwana1 is right, the Yak is a great flyer. Mark, you made the right choice with the extra - you would have been over 24, maybe pushing 25 pounds on the Yak, as it is a bigger airframe.
Personally, Robin, I like the look of the extra more than the Yak, and that is the only reason I chose to go that route. Like Mark said, go with whatever one you think looks best.
