IPACS is supposed to be releasing a new version of AFPD this month.
I vote AFPD. Better physics & realism all around. Don't let glitzy graphics and pretty airplanes bias your judgement about flight realism. |

Although, i just found yak55 that is acceptable to fly and train 3D in afpd. I still engourage people to try flightsims, not games with rc aircarft in it. FMS is just older version of afpd in my mind Ps, have you ever seen planes falling backwards from sky with 1/3 throttle? Afpd just avoids physics and replaces it with recovery possibilities real planes wouldnt have. And the rudder on most plane has more lift than wings combined. Talk about realism? Afpd seems to have like real aircraft prop wash that makes rudder effective to fly knife edge at 10mph, yeah realistic. Try to solve your personal issues against real flight, it would really help you learn to fly like real rc crafts fly. Still, have to say, that most of the user planes in real flight are crap, cause they edit them to fly like afpd paper planes. The stock planes resemble real life with correct stalls and lift variables. I dont know why i write this stuff, its not my problem if someone likes to neglect reality and play videogames instead, cause its more fun than realistic options. |

We all have our opinions, you're entitled too.
I fly with a crew of giant scale 3D pilots, and they ALL agree AFPD is the most realistic for training. I have Reflex XTR, AFPD and Realflight. I find AFPD to most resemble the aircraft I fly, 30% and 40% Yaks. You do need to find a good airplane, some are indeed fake. The Extreme Flight Yak and the QQ Yak are good ones, and if you turn up the speed to 110-120%, it sharpens your skills pretty well. IMHO, none of the sims are perfect. There are things they just don't get right like momentum for heavier scale and tail slide behavior. But, from my humble perspective, AFPD does the best job. |

As I said last year... I own both and prefer AFPD. I wouldn't say either are "crap." As (most) people have said, the physics in AFPD feel closer to the planes I actually fly (30%-40%, balsa and C-ARF). That goes for 3D too. That does not mean I think RF is a toy, or a joke. 'Cuz I don't.
I will say be wary of anyone who puts down one to better the other. Me no likey that tactic. -- Mike

I'm surprised so many say AFPD has better physics ....I cant honestly tell much difference between either in that department. When I compared like for like models doing 3D or IMAC there didn't seem to be much if any difference. Using G4.5 also.

AFPD have advantage on slow machines - it runs normal, while RF G4,5 physics becomes terrible.

There are two big differences between AFPD and RF G series'. The first is computing power to run the sim. RF takes a lot more computer speed/power to run than AFPD. I have an 18 month old Dell computer with a 256 graphics card and it will run AFPD about 300 frames per second and G5 a about 100 frames per second. The second is the software flight physics. RF's software is made by video gamers and AFPD's software is made by a company that makes most of the software for the German Airforce's flight simulators. This is why most of the people, including me, believe that AFPDs flight physics is better than RF. There is a new AFPD5 avalible in Europe now and they have an up date for people that have AFPD. Hobbico/Great Planes is the USA importer for AFPD and hopefully we will see AFPD5 soon in the US market.

hahah good one, seriously do any of the afpd planes stall? At all? AFPD runs with zero demand of calculations because the physics are what they are, theres not many calculations at all happening, because the flight model is so simple. Hence the high fps, with photographics. Id take flight physics any day over the eyecandy, which is overdone in afpd and realflight sims with unrealistic glitter and shine all over. Afpd feels like extension of the freeware FMS simulator. I use simulator to train, not to enjoy a video game.

Kreot what is so funny?? 90% of the people on this thread agree that AFPD has the best flight physics. I've flown the orginal AFP and also the AFPD since 2001. Everyone of the 100+ planes flies like the real model that it is patterned after. They all stall and 3D like the models they are patterned after. If you want to use a simulator to train, I would get rid of Real Flight and buy the new AFPD5 simulator.

There are only two planes for AFPD that I have found to be available ont he net for free - the qq yak and the ultimate.and both seem like very unrealistically easy.Cant afford to buy more planes for AFPD so if anyone has any suggestions for free downloads, especially for giant gassers.pls lemme know.
