Nope, doesn't work like that (and why would you need 9 rates for a control surface, anyway?). Once you make dual rates a function of Flight Mode, it inhibits the dual rate switches for all control surfaces. The only way to get an additional rate in a given flight mode is to do a mix on it, like rudd/rudd at 50%. I do something similar to this on my 3D flight mode for smoother harrier rolls on some of my smaller planes, where 3D rates on the ailerons are a tad too fast at full stick, so I do an Ail/Ail mix at 75%. I can then go into my 3D flight mode and flip that mix switch when I want to slow down my roll rate while maintaining 3D rates on the tail.

so you're saying matchboxes aren't needed on dual servo surfaces? sorry, just trying to keep up.

You'd still need them on a big aerobatic model where you're running multiple servos on each surface. I guess you could call the Servo Sync kind of a built in Matchbox for smaller models that might have dual elevator servos, or helis.

It has to do with matching servos when you have say, dual elevator servos with one servo per elevator. Since the 72MHz stuff transmits data sequentially when you split two servos a number of channels apart like the Futaba 9C does using channel #2 and #8 for those dual servos, the second channel doesn't track with the first, it always lags. Ask anyone who's played with this problem, there's no way to eliminate it and is the reason I went to a 9Z as it uses channels #2 and #5 for that and has some other functionality the 9C doesn't have to help eliminate this problem. This sequential data transmission slows down control response even without a situation like the above. This is the "latency" you see folks talk about occasionally. So servo synch on a 72 system as well as a 2.4 groups those channels together so data is received by the rx in a more timely manor. The big difference with a native 2.4 is that it has a much larger bandwidth to use with as well as the servo synch so it gets data to the model faster. Sort of like comparing a dialup Internet access to broadband Internet access.

It is not designed to accomodate multiple servos on a single surface, you'll need either very careful setup on progammable Hitecs or matchboxes either separate or part of a power expander to do that...

You are SO right about the elevator lag--I tried everything and wound up using a SF Equalizer--thats definitely a big plus to me with the 9303

I guess I should add that I'm currently waiting for my new X9303 to show up since I was one of the "dummies" who didn't realize that by ordering one without servos, I'd have to wait another month....

That's the reason I'm following this thread. I did get a DX-7 to play with while waiting and have put it in my glow models. The change in the control response even from my 9Z is amazing.

Can't wait to get the X9303/R921 setup going for my gassers!

p.s. Steve, sorry for taking this thread off topic, but there seem to be some valid questions about the new tx being asked.

Thats the reason I went to Hitec 5955's. and 5985's. You can program them on a Y cord to be identical. I dont personally like matchbox. Others dont like programmability. so to each his own. I program them on a y cord so I ensure they throw identically first. Then plug them into whatever setup you desire. Right now, though my aileron servos are still on a HD Ycord on my 1/3 scale. I dont like that but Idont have a Pwer Expander in it right now, just the receiver

Other than that, If I had 2 servos on a single surface like a rudder or elevator, the PE would come in handy, as would a matchbox., but the DX radios make the servos track like mirrors. I was very impressed with servo sync. You can bang the controls on mine and they look like they are hooked to gether on a y cord.

Would this setup work on the R921 rx ? This would be on a 35% plane 4 aileron servos (2 on each port connected with a Y)
1 Aileron
2 Aileron
3 Elevator
4 Elevator
5 Thro
6 Rudder
7 Kill
8 Bat 1
9 Bat 2

Sure, but you don't need to Y your ailerons, throw them on the 2 unused channels. The R921 rx the X9303 comes with has 2 battery ports, just plug your batts into those.

Oh really ? I dont have one yet--only looked at a small picture--Ill have to look for a better pic of one--that would be perfect! no Y's at all!

edit--Im using 4 aileron servos total--2 per wing so that wouldnt work

You can't assign channels 1-4 to be anything other than throt, ail, elev, rudd - in that order - so your scenario won't work.

Yea I do know that--I was just numbering for the sake of seeing how many ports there are total--not necessarily in that order..
