Default DA 100 won't turn up

I have a near new DA 100 that has about 4.5 gallons through it and was running well on a H9 Edge. Just installed it on a new AW 100cc Yak with MTW cannisters, started it, and it just won't make power all of a sudden (it only sat about a week). I re-plumbed and tested the the tank -- no joy. Checked and gapped the plugs -- no joy. Took off the cannisters and re-installed the mufflers -- no joy. Reset the needles to factory specs --again no joy. Both cylinders get warm about the same, both seem to put out exhaust -- but the top RPM on a Mejliak 28x10 is 4600. It was turning about 6200 on a TBM 27x10 before the swap. The TBM looks like a Menz copy, and should be a very similar load. Also switched to a synthetic fuel blend (Mobil 2T @40:1) from the break-in fuel (Pennzoil @ 32:1), but rechecked with the old blend after the problem -- no difference.

This engine when brand new had a somewhat similar problem for about 2-3 starts, and someone mentioned a sticky reed, but the problem went away, although the engine remained fairly hard to tune -- and in that case the cylinders were not heating evenly, while in this case, they seem to be.

I'm at the tearing the hair out stage, or would be if I had any. I own a butt-ugly ZDZ-80 that works perfectly, and did out of the box, but this engine looks like a million bucks, and runs like 25 cents. What am I not thinking of here? Any ideas? I hate to send it back, as I have events coming up that I really want to attend.

I realize all engines are subject to flaws, no matter the brand. Not trying to flame DA -- I just need help; I'm out of ideas. I saved awhile for this engine, and I'm a little disappointed so far, because it's been more trouble than fun.

Hello
As mentioned above, check the polarity at the igniton sensor connection (JR type).
If that doesn't do it, try a different prop to confirm it's not a incorrectly marked or faulty prop. If it still doesn't run up, please let us know.

I had my ignition sensor plugged in backwards and it turned like 4600 RPM. I was baffled and called DA, they said reverse the sensor plug and it went back to normal. They all run like 4600 RPM when plugged in backwards.

Hi,

Just tried all the suggestions (in order). Polarity is correct; patch cord ohms out -- output under 1 amp load from regulator 5.12v. TMB 27x10 actually worse rpm -- 3900. Don't want to run too long in this condition. Will call DA in the morning. I think its a sick child...

Whoops. I didn't read the advice too well -- and checked polarity at the output plug -- and not the input plug from the hall sensor, which, um, was reversed, just as predicted. RPM at factory settings now 6100 with TBM 27x10. Will retune and all should be fine. Thanks for all the quick and timely help, guys. Now I can go change my user name to "Moron" and sleep well. Seriously, thank you all.

cursor,

Glad to see that you have found your problem with the suggestions here. Now I have to suggest this same thing to my friend that sounds like he may have the same issue.

Thanks for bringing the question to the Giants and thanks to those that had the answer.

Sleepy, if you are reading this, take a look under the hood of your new 260.
