Why would we want to overload an airframe that bad? Are you planning on pylon racing a YAK or something?

why????? i would imagine the wieght and vibration would start breaken things.. and in that sense why buy a big engine if the use is going to wreck it... i like over powered.. but there has to be a limit.. this coming from the guy that puts 82 4stroke on a 4 pound profile.. oh well.. you could be like this pic...

I was thinking of a ZDZ 80 or similar on a 50cc airframe. A lot of them (especially Bipes) could prolly handle it!

I laughingly joked about it , until I saw a ZDZ Super 80 in an EF Yak 88" this season.

While giggle and fart cool, it was completely wrong on many levels.

Balance, crazy things had to be done.

Vibration..that COULD be fixed with a twin.

THrust...or Idle Thrust. Idle thrust was enough to fly the plane, deadstick only landings.

Prop clearance....it made it, beacause the EF 88" is enormous...other birds would have a problem.

Motor box-airframe strength...could be overcome, this one was not.

After all that....yes all that power would Uber Fun. Just seemed like a hassle to me.

Of course , I overpowered a 1/3 Cub a week ago, with a 3W 106, but all the problems above were not problems at all. The cowl fit was the only hurdle.

Have fun, enjoy the hassle, experiment, stay safe, and get one of those timeless experiences to talk about later.

I don't see anything wrong in putting a BME110/115X on a Composite-ARF 2.3m Extra, that ought to make for a fun airplane.

The larger 28% planes (Wild Hares, Extreme Flight, Etc) could handle the 80cc no problem as some have been flying heavier 60cc engines already.

Heck I was thinking about stuffing a 3W 200 on my 41% vs my 150 I have now.

My son put a BME 95 in his 2.3M Comp ARF. He wanted to go with a BME 110 (which would have fit better), but we were worried about ground clearance. He has plenty of power now, even at 5000 ft + density alt.
We did not have any balance problems, actually the batteries are all the way forward against the motor dome. No need for weight in the tail.

A DA-85 on a 33% H-9 Cap at 21.5 lbs now I love this kind of deals. This kind of stuff reminds me of when I would show up at the field with a plane I had built. There would be epoxy all dried up and all over the place for the gluing of the wings, stab and fin. More experience flyers would ask me who put your kit together for you. I would smile like a pee cock and say "I did and the manual says it will take 25-30 hours and I did it in 12 hours. Now is that a priceless pic or what?" Now many years later I see the same thing round robin with the newer flyers, we all sit back and wait for them to take off to give us something to tell the flyers who are going to miss this excitement
