Default Goldberg Extra 330 77" wingspan

Looks like Goldberg is selling the Extra 330 again.
Tower has them on order ( look at the price now ).
I got mine with the tower codes at the door for $195.00
Goldberg website also has the parts forsale again.

$195? Where? I checked Tower's price and it says $149... Is there a discount code you type in the website to get the $195 out the door price? is this a mistype?

Right on!! I have a Fuji 50 on the front, and it rocks. I thought I bought the last one. Now I am not flying a vintage aircraft anymore. For the money, it will be hard to find a better aerobat.

I just checked tower website and the price is $419 with an order pending. Hopefully this is the unit price. Before discontinuing the Extra, it sold for half.

At the time I purchased mine at Tower, It was at $235.00 and I had a code that was $40.00 off, and with the being a Tower member it was free shipping.
So the at my door price was $195.00
I can't beleive it now is being listed at $419.00, maybe it will come down again.
I need a new fuse, and the Goldberg site has parts forsale again.
I just kind of have a hard time spending $175.00 ( fuse ), $30.00 ( landing gear ), $20.00 ( landing gear cover ) total of $235.00 when I paid $195.00 for the whole plane.

Stupid me, Filled the smoke tank with gasoline and never filled the fuel tank.
Ran out of gas at a bad time.

I had the Fuji BT43EI-2 in mine. Motor ran great and smooth, just under powered.
Plane flew nice, but hoover was almost full throttle. ( smoker, smartfly, ect, ect ) had it at 16 1/2lb.
I then put a DL-50 in it and HELLO, it can alive, I really like the DL.

Goldberg which Lanier RC has owned for a few years now was purchased by Great Planes just a couple of months ago, that's why they are back in production. Hopefully they will do well with the product line, I have no complaints with the GP products that I have purchased in the past which was their 27% Cap 232 and the Ultimate bipe both nice planes.

As an economist, I can appreciate the DL 50. I have been giving the motor some thought. My Extra weighs in at 15.5LBS with the fuji50. My fuji is not a true Alphabet 50, but it tries to hang in there. For the money, the DL seems to be the perfect entry level 50 gasser. What prop are you swinging with your DL. I was using a 20x10 pro-zinger for break-in. I just switch to synthetic and was thinking about changing the prop to a 22x8 pro-wood. RPM is not a concern, but P-factor is.

Tell me more about how it came alive with the DL-50. Do you still have the smoke system on your extra? What is your AUW now?

Picture of the Fuji on the front.

No more pictures of the build of the Extra, deleted them all.
The Extra is sitting waiting for repairs.
I now have everything in a Rich Model 30% Yak 54 ( picture below ).
The list of the Extra with the Fuji:
Fuji BT43EI-2
Futaba 6EX 2.4 radio
Seven Futaba S3305 metal gear servos
one Futaba S3004 servo
Smartfly power expander
Extensions and Y's
Two 6V 1650mah batteries
One 4.8V 1500mah battery ( motor )
16oz fuel tank
16oz smoke tank
Sullivan Sky writer
6V 1650mah battery for smoker
3" aluminum spinner
20 X 8 APC prop
Ready to fly dry weight of 16 1/2lbs
Smoker adds about a pound, without smoker it was 15 1/2lb.
Verticle was limited ( would fall off ) hoover at 90-95% throttle, and NO pull out of a hoover with the Fuji.
Ran great, started very very easy, idle smooth as could be.
Just much more of a scale engine then a 3D engine.

Sold the Fuji and went with a DL-50
Lost 2oz, and gained romp stompin power.
Unlimited verticle, hoover at 1/2 throttle and will pull out of a hoover with power to spare.
I have only run the DL with a JFX 22 X 8 and on a digital fish scale it pulls ( hooked to a pole ) 25 1/2lbs.
I never got to try a JFX 23 X 8 that I have, since the Extra now has a smashed nose.
Now eveything is in the Yak.
The Yak is larger ( 87" ) and 1435 sq inches wing area.
It is weighing in at 17 1/2lb, so 1lb more and and 350 sq inches more of wing area should fly much much better then the Extra did.
I'll let you know, maybe the maiden this weekend.
By the way, the smoker is worth the extra weight, smoke is sooooo cool.

Nice looking bird. Good luck with the maiden. It is raining here, so no flying for me today. I am interested to see how the pro-wood 22x8 prop will perform. If it does not give the performance I desire, I will be in the market for a true 50.

This plane will be a little heavy. I'm assuming 16-18 lbs?

With 1118 sq. in. of wing area it won't float like a feather. But it shall still be nice in IMAC. Just hovering, harriers, and 3D stuff will be more of a challange. I'd reccomend a DA-50, but an OS 1.60 is about 20+ oz. lighter than a DA-50 and will have almost as much pull-out power because of the power to weight ratio.

Ok, The Fuji is 82 oz. w/ muffler. An OS 1.60 is 32 oz. A HUGE diffrence there. We are talking a 3.1 lb (50 oz.) diffrence! And an oz 1.60 is $90 cheaper and will require much less maintenance. It will swing about... eh 18 x 10 prop. Witch will be plenty of pull-out power. So this plane COULD get 3-4 lbs. knocked off just by changing engines.

I would try to get my hands on an OS 1.60 if I were you. They are quite common and you can find them anywhere.

Well that is just my sugestion for a competition capable aircraft.

Reguards,
Matt
