And for the Futaba inclined there is the MSA-10:

And the good old trusty SMart-Fly products:

Bottom line is any of these are far superior to using a simple "Y".

Get out and do some flying???? What's that???? lol.

Yeah that would be great. Unfortunately it's now gotten to that time of year where the flying opportunities will be really scarce until Spring in this part of the Country.

A typical 40% size model will usually weigh about 40 lbs. dry and have a wingspan of about 120"

That will vary a bit depending on the exact model and builder's techniques. There isn't a restriction on piston powered models until they get really big with a weight over 100 lbs. if I remember correctly.

I'll attach a picture of a friend with his 3.1M Comp-Arf Extra which is just a touch bigger than 40%, maybe 41 or 42% for you to see how big they are.

My friend is 6' 5" tall for reference.

That is a Beautiful plane. Not sure how big my buddys Extra was i flew, only flew it once, it was a old club member from years back and i happened to run into him at another clubs family day and he offered to let me fly it. it flew nice.
for the color it was and looking on the aeroworks site it was the 150cc one but im not sure if it was that big or not. he was driving a Honda hatch back and the front passenger seat was gone and he had built a holder for the landing gear and the tail was at the rear glass. I joke with him said why not just strap the plane to the top of the car and fly it here lol
