thanks for the reply. I have a 49cc gas engine I want to convert. It ia from a motor scooter. Is it worth it to try to convert it or should I look into a dl50. The engine I have does need a custom prop hub. I also need to know If I can build my own electronic egnition. I am one of those guys that want to say I did it all myself.
Thanks for your help bomber |

just get a da50- you would find the engine you convert would be too heavy etc and a lot of work.

Correction ... get a "DL-50" .... Half the cost and better performance than DA50.

Better yet, buy my Venom 45. It is cheaper, powerful and comes with a FREE 3.75" spinner and a 20-10 prop.
It is in the swapshop here on FG, check it out. Jon

There is only one 50cc weedie.chanisaw engine that I would consider converting, that being the Echo 50cc chainsaw shorblock, Part Number SB1080 available from several Echo parts suppliers for about $210 USD or so, as a complete unit. To this you will need a WT503 carburetor (about $35), spacer block (homemade) crankshaft extension (about $25 from a machine shop) and the miscellaneous nuts and bolts to get thigns going. . about another $10 or so. Total, sans ignition, of about $270, and weighing in at about 3 lbs even without the exhaust. J&A makes a Pitts style exhaust for the engine, if you want to contact them, it costs about $50, and an off the shelf RcXcel ignition from CH will run you about $75 plus shipping. So, for a total of about $400 you have the entire engine, muffler (very good piece) and ignition. The engine comes with a Beam style mount, like a glo engine and is within 200 rpm of a DA-50 without modifying it in any way. Again, it weighs about 3 lbs 6 ounces WITH ignition and muffler, the same as the DA-50, and power is within 200 rpm, and sometimes the same, as that engine. For reference, the Echo engine was once distributed by BME Engines as the BME-50, and many of them are out there in aircraft right now, flying around and doing just fine.

... Or, ... you could avoid all that headache in the above post, .. and just by a new DL-50 engine from HobbyCity for $325 + $38 shipping, and have a much superior engine for less money, and with a warranty.

I just fired up my DL-50 from DLUSA.com for the first time last night. Only took an hour or less to get started (including flooding recover) and is a BEAST! Realize that this is my first Gas Motor EVER! I think i went the right way on this. So I agree with all these "experts"

The man is asking about coverting an engine, not investing in Chinese clones that have already proven to be less than stellar. Still wondering where you get the "much superior" idea. Better buy some spare mufflers while you are at it, word is that they are prone to beakage. I'm guessing that the "Hobby City" you are referring to is the one in the FAR EAST, and has everything modelled with Chinese girls??? Gotta love that FTL 45cc gasser for a mere $175. . got to be a real earth shaker for a price like that. If you are gonna plug a 50. . may as well let people know about he XY-50 engine for a mere $210: http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=5789 It may not be "superior" but the price is certainly right.
