Default Midwest 27% Cap 232 and Extra 300 3D capable?

Might have a line on a couple cheap Midwest 27% kits. They used to make a Cap 232 and an Extra 300, both 80" span. I've been eyeing a 50cc project.

Are they good 3D platforms? Maybe with a DA-50?

Please, tell me your experiences with either.

Dave

I've seen the cap fly with a moki 210. Not sure about all out 3d, but it hovers fine.

I had the Cap with a DA 50. I lightened the plane down to around 14 lbs and it was a 3D beast! I could put it on the runway and hold full 3D up and hit full power and it would just rotate and climb forever . . . No 3D maneuver it could not do.

I sold it only to fund a 150 . . .

I HAD A CAP YEARS AGO WIH MOKI 180 POWER. DID LOTS MORE THAN I WAS CAPABLE OF. EVENTUALLY SOLD IT. BUILT ANOTHER LAST YEAR THAT MY FRIENDLY HOBBY DEALER GAVE ME. PUT A FUJI 43EI IN. FLEW FINE BUT ENGINE DIDN'T HAVE TOO MUCH SNAP, ONLY TURNED 6200 RPM. THEY SENT ME ANOTHER, BUT BEEN TRYING TO SELL IT AND GET A 50. BUILT AN EXTRA SEVERAL YEARS AGO THAT ALSO FLEW GOOD. SOLD IT AND GUY PROMPTLY CRASHED IT DUE TO RADIO WITH NO RANGE. BUT IF YOU LIKE BUILDING, THEY ARE GOOD WAY TO FO. GOOD WOOD ETC. DICK N52DS@PAONLINE.COM

Superdave. If you want one to 3D pm me you email and I will give you a list of mods that had all my MW 80" planes between 12-13lbs RTF with a Moki.

Dick Hanson had done a lot of mods to get these caps super light. Its on RCU. The versions with the airfoiled tail are the ones to go with. If you ask MidWest they still have some things available for the kits. IMHO the fuses are a little over built and this is where you can save a lot of weight.

I'd be interested in the mods also as I just picked one up (w/airfoiled tailfeathers) NIB!

I too have this kit and it is ready to cover now as we speak. Mine had the flat tail surfaces. I modified them and built them up so it has a flying tail now. LOL (I just love saying that because it irritates so many) Any way I am looking forward to finishing it up. Lets keep this thread going and show them off when they are done.

If you can get ahold of Dick Hanson I think he cuts foam cores for them.
