Default 120" QQ Yak vs Krill Katana 39%

Hi!

I'm thinking in my next project, it will have a DA150 on it. It's purpose is to participate in international F3M (unlimited IMAC in Europe) and in 4 min Freestyles (A TAS/Don Lowe Masters/XFC plane).

I have flown two 39% Krill Katanas (of two friends) and really like them, however, I' ve always loved the 3W Yak 54, but it's way too expensive for me. Now the new QQ Yak 54 120" will be available here in Spain by end of the year, and it's about 1900$.

I think the Yak is perfect for freestyle, however I don't know how it will perform in comparison with the Katana in IMAC. The problem with the Yak is its longevity (wood) and the problem with the Katana is its price (2900$)...

What do you think? (Other options are welcome)

Default Re: 120" QQ Yak vs Krill Katana 39%

hello - just happened to stumble upon this thread...I throw my two cents in, I have owned both the 3W yak and currently own the Krill Katana....either one is a great flying plane, as much as I love the Yak design, I just couldnt click with the airplane, it didnt feel 'right'....I had always had my eye on the Katana - way back when only Sebastiano Silvestri was flying it...I decided to give it a whirl....what do I have to loose? right?

Best thing I ever did, this is prloy the best plane I have owned to date, the second would be the Carden 330...but I think the Katana has it beat in a few places...The Katana has definetly increased my confidence level while flying IMAC this year...vast improvement from last year! I am finishing my second Katana and will be setting it up for Freestyle/3D flying.....we all know already it can do that!

So my suggestion is to fly what is most eye appealing to 'you', and the one you want to fly everyday...the new line up of QQ Yaks are great as well - but compared to the Krill - they are about 2 lbs and some oz's heavier....weight is not everything - but if I can avoid going over 40lbs, I will.

Hope this helps...
