Hey Rich! Just got started. Blake sent the landing gear out onTuesday so I should get it today and you will be able to keep yours that way. My motor was shipped from DA yesterday. Thanks for the help to DA. I will try to post some photos.

I have had one of these in the box for about 3 months, just started working on it last weekend. I’m putting a ZDZ 80RV on it. If it weights under 25lb. it should kick ass, the last model I had with this engine on it weighted around 24.5 and I had all the 3D power I needed. If not I will put my DA100 on it. It should be done by this Sunday. I put a good 5 hours work on it last weekend, and a couple of hours last night. Putting the ZDZ on was major time consumer. I’m using the Pull cable system for the rudder. Since the ZDZ is 22 ounces less than the DA100, getting the CG with pull-pull verses the tail mounted servos should not be a problem. I should be out in St. Louis flying it this Sunday. I need to position and install the electronics, and batteries to get the CG right, and she will be ready to go. If anyone is flying this model, what is the aggressive 3D CG position? The stated CG in the manual is 8 3/8 inboard from the leading edge, this seems pretty far back, can it go back further?

If anyone wants to put a ZDZ80 on this plane, and they live in St. Louis I can give them my mounting template. The template gives you the bolt locations and the minimum hole size to get the carb through the fire wall. The carb, is half way through the fire wall, the needle valves and throttle are on the engine side of the firewall, and the choke is inside the fuse. I have the throttle servo mounted on an L bracket located on the firewall. It’s a real pain in the ass to mount this engine, and to cut the cowling to fit the exhaust and piston head. I wouldn’t recommend buying this engine to put on this plane; however, if you already have one, you could give it a try. We will see how it works out this weekend. I am also going to try a single Hitec 5955 (330 inch ounces) on the Pull- Pull rudder, we will see how that works.

If you are going with a single rudder servo, I would and have, used the JR 8711. This airplane has a lot of rudder and I think a HS-5955 will not be enough.

Hi GuysI had a Pacific Extra 260 and this was about the best plane I had ever flown, I used a ZDZ 80RV-J on a JMB T70 can (a little fuselage modification was required) with 1 x Hitec 5985 servo on every surface with the rudder servo at the tail end.I made a new tank tray to allow the tank to be mounted on the C/G on top of the wing tubeI weighed the contents of the kit before building which was 15lbs 2 ounces and when built had a flying weight of 22lbs 4 ounce with an RV-J for power on a ZDZ 26 x 8 or 10 prop very noisy on the 26 x 8 better on the 26 x 10, unfortunately I never had a chance to try more props before the model met an unfortunate end (not my fault)Can anyone tell me how to attach pictures?

I temporarily put all the batteries and electronics in the plane last night, and checked the CG. Even with the Lighter ZDZ it’s hard to get the 8 3/8. I have the ignition battery behind the main spar, the main batteries (2) 2100 MAH, are at 2nd former behind the canapé , if they were any further back, I wouldn’t be able to reach and install them, and the CG is only around 8 inches. I may just leave it at 8 and see how it flies. If I can get this plane together by Sunday, I’m not sure if I will fly it a Buder Park.

Mark,
Try for center of tube or just even of front of tube for CG and do a CG check flight inverted.
I think you'll like that, as flying with you that might suit you fine. Give me a call or will meet this weekend and I'll show you where mine is with the DA85. Did you get some flights on the plane yet?

I finished the 260 yesterday afternoon. I ended up putting the ignition battery way back, two formers behind the canapé - talked to Rich about it yesterday. I got the CG very close to the spar. I leaned out the ZDZ a little, and it’s running strong. Worse comes to worse, I may have to put an ounce or two on the tail, however, the first flight will tell. Weather permitting - this plane will be in the air this coming weekend.

I checked out the weather, its looking like it could rain, they are predicting it, but it’s too early to be sure. I’m cutting out of work early today; I will be out at Buder around 1:00. I’m going to meet Steve K. out there. I’m too curious to wait till this weekend to see how this plane flies with the ZDZ. I was looking at the specs on the DA 85, and it’s not that much different than the ZDZ 80 RV, the ZDZ is about 3 ounces lighter, both claim 8 ˝ HP. The 85 swings a bigger prop, probable has to do with the torque curve. For some reason DA doesn’t list the 85 on its site, looked it up on a vendor site. I don’t know why the engine manufactures don’t list torque and HP curves.
