This project is getting pretty close. Seeing how its a 99% turnkey I'll wait for the switches and most of the electronic's to be installed beforeI final sand and shape this in. Really all thats left is to install the wheel pants and then its time for the ailerons which I always do last...With the plane together as it sets I'll go on to the wings..We be Yak's and ****"

Walt, that is looking fantastic....As usual.
You make building look so easy. Don't know if you have seen this and it is just for future info, I see you are using canopy trimming for the LG cuffs. You ought to look into another Foremost product. It is called "U" Trim 1/8". It is smaller then the canopy trim and slips onto the cuffs similar. I just scuff up the inside of the cuff and wick thin CA on the inside only. Works great and give a nice finished edge also. Just thought you may want to check it out.

We start covering it next week and we are stealing Mike's Hilderbrand's scheme, with some changes. I asked him and he didn't care, just seeing what you guys think. And no I'm not an Illini fan I just like the colors.

T.Bob, The scheme is a winner, clean, simple and will look good years down the road. Question, are going to add ducting at all? probably not needed? And just a suggestion, I would add the Carb-Plate on the DA-100. The diaphragm vent hole will be right in the middle of the air flow. Great job between you and Walt with the Build Thread, look forward to the finished Plane. Last edited by zzw26n; 11-09-2007 at 09:09 AM. |

Ailerons: Got the ailerons cut out and the material on for the hinge lines. The ailerons are tapered from 4-3/8ths to 5-7/8ths and are 43 inches long..

[quote=gareth.ky;331528]good to know the ailerons dimensions you used. Looking good Walt![/quote
The last several builds I have done have ended up with 1-1/2 inch taper in the aileron. It looks correct by eye and I personally like tapered ailerons better than the constant barn door variety. The 40%er's I cut from 5 inches at the tip to 6-1/2 at the root end and unless asked for, I usually stay with a 48 inch length to avoid splicing the material for the hinge stock. With 3/8th's stock for hinge bevel you can get around 37 degrees throw if you really cut back the bevel. After hinging, covering, and then sealing this will end up around 35 degrees, if you want more than this you'll need to go to 1/2 inch bevel material. This has seemed to work out pretty good for the guys flying them and this is what I try to end up with..
