I'm getting started laying out the wings for my 35% Carden 260 project this weekend so this was good timing. Your measurements are a tad larger than the plans call for. The plans say 4" tip and 5 3/4" root. I'll draw it out both ways and see what "looks right" to me. The stock constant cord ailerons look like trainer ailerons to me. Even the real 260 had pretty large tapered ailerons:
Ok enough thread jacking, back to the yak. |

Ailerons: I used a marking template to mark the back cut angle on the ends, connected the marks with a line and made a big mess in the shop. Master Airscrew hand plane, a pearing knife for cutting out the wing inboard/root end and a 24inch T sander. Lots of fitting to get right but when the aileron is fully deflected the bevels match the entire length of the aileron at 35 degrees. Time for hardpoints...and a Frosty

Walt,
question about glassing the hatch/canopy. What weight glass cloth have you found to work best ? On my Extra I made the mistake of NOT glassing over the joint where the plastic canopy meets the balsa hatch. I used auto filler to blend here and of course it cracked. I've been doing some test pieces on the Yak and I'm having a hard time getting the cloth/resin to really adhere to the plastic canopy. I've sanded it well, cleaned it well but I can still peel the cloth off the plastic test scraps I've made. I've been using Zpoxy finish resin. I'm sure there is probably something beter to use. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks Steve |

Would SIG microballons mixed with Z poxy be a good idea to have a smooth transition between canopy and the hatch, assuming the hatch is glassed and painted?

Here's the money shot: Its ready to strip and final sand for covering. Before I do I always put the entire plane together and do a walk-around and take some pictures. It all looks good and straight and I'm happy with the results. I wish I could leave it like this cause the wood is pretty, thanks Carden
