I think the boost tabs might be a must, there on the end of Lew's foot. I think the tabs will end up inserted you know where to get the TBOOB to actually fly this thing. Walt

Not to question you but will one rudder servo be enough for this bird?

Looks like it is a HS5955TG in the picture but still will it be enough?

T.Bob is a warbird pilot at heart. He only uses the rudder for taxiing.

Jim,

No problem.
I dont know the specs on the Hitec servo but lots of guys are running one 8711 on a 35% rudder.
Not pull pull, direct drive.

I've been using a single 5955 on the rudder of both of my 35% Cardens without a hitch.....more than enough power.

jmiracle, can you post a pic of your linkages? I know you have said before your using 1 of those servos on a 35% aileron. I'm guessing you have very good linkage geometry. Do you 3D with that setup?

Rudder servo on this plane will be a JR8711. Here's a couple pictures of previous builds to show the idea of what we're doing..This system allows perfect geometry. The aluminum horn on the rudder bottom in made the same width as the servo arm and the push pull rods pivit on the hinge line

I really like that setup better than the servo in one side of the tail. Short, direct, nearly 1:1 linkages and easily accessible.

Thanks Walt!

i don't have any pics here...but it's just a standard setup....ball-links, h9 turnbuckles, and I keep linkages at better than 1:1 on ail....and yes, it's 3D capable. (well, I'm not, but the plane is...)

going with single big servos on those surfaces you can probably shave $300 off the cost of a 35%.

That is just the savings for the servos. You are also saving on extensions, servo arms, linkages, control horns, matchboxes if you use them, even possibly on batteries because with 3 less servos you might consider using slightly smaller packs.
