I found some old pictures of my 40% Giles 300. I wouldn't do this exactly like this set up now because I could do it alot lighter, but this is old school with the same principle. Some planes won't allow this set up due to balance issues, this plane with a 150 needed tail weight...

Wow guys thanx for some greeat ideas for my 33% SD Yak. I was going to go with either a S3952 on pull-pull or a HS5955TG on the side in the tail but i like the bottom mounting better. My SD is an ARC so I still have time to change anything I need to.

I take it this build is on a Carden Baby Yak?

While plane was leveled out I set the foam cores for the stab/elevator on the phenolic and matched the root angle to the fuse on both sides. After this I glued in the phenolic and sheeted both stabs. Got the root ribs made, this time there lite ply. Hard points are inletted for the wing attachment bolts, servo wire exits are opened up and I located and drilled in the fuse a 1/4 inch hole on airfoil centerline for an anti rotation pin for the wings.

Incidence: Installing the anti rotation pins for the wings ended up being in a very soft spot on the fuse. I made a lite ply backer plate to support the pin in this area. Before the doubler I actually cracked the sheeting on the fuse with the pin while removing the wing. While setting the stab to wing parallel I was able to flex the entire fuse 1 degree by setting a roll of masking tape on either stab. I realize the top turtle deck will stiffen this a bit but being nervous about this holding on zero I added 1/4x3/8ths diagonals from where Carden has them in the center section to the tail. Major difference in flex with very little weight. Anti rotation pins were drilled through the opposite fuse side into the stab and pins are set in epoxy.

Tail attachment done: I've inletted 2 birch ply 3/4 inch round disc's for hard points for the stab root to pull up against. I do this so the ears don't crush the fuse sides with the bolts

Tail surfaces: I got the tail group all cut out. I pre beveled and drilled the hinge material before I glued it on. After this all sets up I'll blend in the edging to match the airfoil. All done with Titebond II.....

Man those servos bottom side is an awesome idea. I was going to build some mounts on the side of my cap but this would be even better and more direct.

TBob & Walt,

A couple questions;

1) The fuse sides are flat forward of the wings LE and the Cowl is round, 1/4" gap where the two meet up?

2) The rectangular gussets in the fuse, are those to print? or added by Walt?

thanks, Ward
