jmiracle,

I know this post was a few pages back but what if anything did you do to stiffen the Aileron for use with only one servo?

I have a 33% SD Yak 54 ARC that I am working on and would like to go with one 5955 on each aileron if I can so I don't have to worry about programming servos or using a matchbox>

The specs on the HS5955 by the way are 333oz @6.0v so a little lighter on the torque then the 8711 but the Titanium gears should prevent from stripping easier.

Walt the build looks awsome.

Wish I could build like that or you were closer!

rc4flying..

Joe on Post #94 you were showing the front end of a Yak and showing how you faired in to the cowl so there was no space. In the picture of the cowl you can see the cooling louvers. I know that the Carden's don't come with these so did you make them yourself or are they commercially available from somewhere.

Great scheme by the way, Russian Thunder!

I am doing Groupe Tranchmant on my 33% SD Yak with DA85.

The Carden is a foam core wing , so its fairly stiff when built to plans.
So basically all you need to do is only cut 1 servo bay into the wing.
With a built up wing such as the SD models, personally I would try to run a small carbon spar into the aileron. But with the Cardens or Daltons its just not nessassary.

We did my plane for last years Toledo Show. It was a decesion between the one you have choosen, which is great also, and the Russian Thunder. Glad we chose the one we did, cause there was one like the one you want to do that we competed with at the show. That planes was also well done.

As for the cowling, see pics below, All the louvers are just cut from Monokote to look like they are louvers. Not bad when you look quick. The cowl was built up and monokoted and this was the easiest way to get the look we wanted. Plane was done with all Monokote including all hand cut Monkokote graphics. No Paint other then on the landing gear.

Sorry I could not help with your louver search.

The builder that does this prefers to build the cowlings on the Cardens, cause when he enteres the planes in the Toledo Show, there is extra effort in the build and he like to use Monokote. He has no way to paint where he builds.
After having several planes with wood cowlings, I actually prefer them over the glass ones. There are solid and have never been a problem.

Thanks for your comments. I will pass them along to the builder.

That was my point.
He was asking about Jason's planes, and how he only has one servo per wing. Jason's planes are all Cardens and have foam wings, so its just a matter of positioning the servo pockets.
With the SD, I think the Built up wing would demand some sort of stiffner.

cockpit: Got the floor and the sides done. This floor will be all opened up around the pilot and instrument panel to get rid of some extra weight. Pilot is on the way.
