There are probably MORE good flying planes THEN bad ones
We are in an awesome time right now with plenty out there. I would venture to say the main difference in airframes now is the customer support behind them. This goes with engines too. What good is an expensive toy if you cant get the parts you need for it? I ran into the same type of deal with certian RC cars I would run.

From what I've flown in IMAC, the QQ yak and the comp-arf yak55 are my top choices. The main reason is they are such a slow airframe it gives you time to think on down lines for maneuvers.

The Aeroworks 260 I have flies great and was a really easy build. Balances well with a wide range of setups.

I'm thinking very hard about a H9 260. I keep coming back to a one stop shop. Saves me a lot of time since i don't have a LHS less then an hour away. Plus it seems to fly very will in the vids i've seen.

Like SGT said, these are good times to be in this hobby.Way to much to chose from and the prices and build time are ate an all time low..Just take a look at how many ARF,s flew and more then handled there own at TAS.Its to the point were you can almost bass your decision entirly on looks(unlike woman).Aerowerks,Hanger9,QQ,Wild hare,X-Treme flight, are all good companies that havent changed there names ten times, and will bend over backwards to help you out.I kinda favor the H9 260 because my LHS has them in stock,Shipping damage has always been my biggest nightmare(Fork Lifts suck unless your doing donuts with them)..........Good Luck

Compys are really nice cause you don't have to iron down the covering.

With all this talk about "which airframe is best", one very important point is getting totally overlooked: SETUP . All the planes mentioned are excellent planes and it doesn't matter which one you go with. Sure, some may track a bit better than others, some may be better at 3D and some may be cheaper or more expensive but in the end it is your setup that will make or break the plane. You said you want to get into IMAC and Freestyle...any of the previously mentioned airframes will be more than adequate but if your 35% plane is setup like crap, it will fly like an expensive piece of crap. Talk to some of the Advanced and Unlimited IMAC guys and they will probably tell you the same thing. Just go to your LHS, get the H9 260 or buy whatever you have acces to/suits your budget/is attractive to you and get a proper setup (strong servos, strong batts, good motor....that's a whole other topic though) and setup the gear accordingly (thrust angles, balance, weights, throws, mixes....but again, that's a whole other topic).
Bottom line: flip a coin and pick one. Do your homework, put the time in and trim the airframe and you'll have a sweet flying plane for both 3D and precision. |

I'm partial to the Comp-Arf 2.6 Yak. They build very quickly and still look new after hundreds of flights and years of service. Like it was mentioned no covering to come loose. I would be more than happy to give you any help you may need with building or setup.

Krill planes all the way, you could those Velox(2,6m) Katana(2,6m) or wait for the all new YAK.
Velox is a very very smooth flying thing, with reduced movement on the surfaces it's almost like a pattern ship. With full deflection on the surface you have a great 3D machine. I used mine with a ZDZ80 super, AUW 10,7 kg inc gas!(23lbs) static thrust 23 kg(50lbs) Katana used with a DA100 is so just flying damm good and can slow down to walking speed. rgds Joen |
