Hi Everyone, I am going to start a build thread on the EF 88" Yak 54. I opened up the box last night, and i was amazed at this yak. This is a really cool looking plane! It is well built, and pretty light!!!! As well as a strong structure. It comes with neat wing, and stab bags for protection. and also a canopy cover to protect the sun from it.
So i took some pics of the plane today, and will take pics as i build the plane... Specs: WS-88" Length-86" Wing Area-1450 sq. in. Weight-16.5-18.5 lbs. Engine-50cc-60cc I will be using the following equiptments: -DA 50, Stock muffler -Hitec 5955 servos all around -Fromeco batteries, regulators, and switches -JR 9 channel reciver -Stock hardware. (besides the gas tank. i'm using an upgraded bigger capacity tank)

That's a sweet looking yak, Tony. I really like the colors. Can't wait to see you fly it. What plane is that in your avatar? Is it a new one for you?

Its a nice airframe to build - okay assemble. Hope you have fun.
I used a MTW tuned pipe w/ DA50R- my first ever TP. Looks like I'm procrastinating on the final build out and maiden- yet I have my excuses!

ok.. hinged part of the rudder with 30 minute epoxy, cut the slots for the control horns on the rudder and elevators, and glued them in with 30 minute epoxy as well..Then ironed some of the covering, and covered the rudder tray with red covering, just to add it some looks. Glued the landing gear covers, spread some epoxy on the gas tray/motorbox, to fuel-proof the wood.
More to come later.

My pal just finished his 88" with a Da50 upfront. He went for all the lightest gear money can buy n made some slick looking canopy details for his lite pilot. However with the canopy weighing twice the weight of mine and with such a light engine he has to add plenty of lead in the nose to sort his CoG.
If the lead ever drops out-She'll come down like a sac o' spuds. Now the engine has to be perfectly tuned for him to get any usable power in the vert. "Its a bit slow in the uplines" would be a under-statement. The poor ol' Da is humping a serious lunker around with all the extra lead. Ive got nicads on rx and 3cell lipo on ignition with a MVVS 58 upfront with no need for extra lead to sort the CG. The power is great Beware of the lightweight must-haves? Might leave ya chasing yer tail

Wayne, Tony, Chris,
Just for shiz and grins I took a look at the construction manual for 88 inch Yak at the Extreme Flight website... Man- Oh -Man - Has to be the most informative manual - I seen. He even goes so far as to tell how to keep a nice finish on the model. I think I gotta get some of the wax he talks abouit in manual and put it my 37.5%er. I especially like the tips that are put in along the way thinning epoxy for the firewall with denatured alcohol and such.... really good stuff. You can tell these folks have been building for a while.... Ronster |
