I think my friend picked up a can instead of a tune-pipe. Any input on this too?

It balances like the Extra. It depends on the motor and exhaust. If you have a DA and RE-2 or 1060 you need to keep every thing up front. With a Brillelli 60 and stock muffler the batteries end up close to the wing tube.

I don't care too much for cans. You add about the same amount of weight to the plane and they hurt the performance. I've been running an ES Composites Carbon Fiber pipe on one of my DA-50s and it's doing great. It weighs less than a wrap around pitts muffler and performs great.

I second what Charles said....The Tuned pipe offers better performance without any weight gain, and I actually think it may be less weight...Depends on the Pipe.....

My 88" Yak is running with a DLE55, and the ES Composites Carbon pipe also. It was way too tail heavy initially with the batt. mounted behind the wing tube. Now I have the battery on the fuel tank ( temp. field adjustment ) and it flew much better. I will move it permanently in front of the fuel tank and should be able to take out some of the mix I had to add for it to fly well. Plenty of power with this set up. A real keeper!!

I like those ES pipes, but I just can't afford to equip my planes with $220 exhausts. The power and sound would be great for those that can afford it.

The point I was making was for a few extra dollars get yourself a pipe instead of a can if you were planning on using a can.....save a little weight and add some RPM's....

I understand what you are saying. Most cans are pretty expensive too, and for the money difference the pipe could be a better option. I want to try a tuned pipe one of these days.

Thanks for the replies. Yes I like the pipe better too for the added performance in the additional rpm's. The sound is cool on the cans but with my Extra I'm glad now that I dialed in the throttle curve to have the extra power the pipe offers.

I'm going to try and talk my friend into returning the can for a pipe. Who doesn't want more power.

You guys want pictures when I get started?

i know im going to be told to move to a warmer climate, cant right now. It just sucks going through the winter.foamies are ok it just doesnt match up to the thrill of hearing my da screaming while on an upline. Ive been in this hobby for roughly three years and theres nothing better. I fortunatley have to look at my planes everyday because thats the only room i got is in my living room. i cant wait for spring

Ouch! Sorry to see that. What happened? Sorry, I don't know what exact colors of Ultracote were used.

I figured. I could make an educated guess on the colors as I've used a lot of ultracote, but you'd be better off calling Curtis and asking him. Hope you're able to get it back in the air soon! Please keep us updated.
