Default Super large scale

I have just been made aware that Frank Tiano might be putting on another great show, by involving mostly extra large scale airplanes, 30 lbs being a minimum...

Can anyone shed light on this, this would be awesome...

Here is a letter from Frank

Hello All,

I’d like to tell you about a new event I am working on. I don’t
have the “perfect” name for it but so far it’s looking something
like, “Monster Planes South”. The concept is to have a “Fly-In”
for very large RC aircraft.

When I say Very Large, I talking about a minimum of 30 pounds and NO
Maximum limit!

This event will have outside Insurance so we do not require an AMA
Sanction. Therefore, NO Weight Restrictions!!

There will be a stringent Safety Inspection but I don’t see any other
unusual procedures.

I have already secured a safe site here in Lakeland, Florida and have
reserved it for three days in the last week of October,or the first week
of November, 2008.

I am looking at STRONG awards in several categories, awards that will
include Cash and a prestigious trophy.

I will announce the exact dates and who the Sponsors are in about 60
days. But for now, if anyone has a large model, wants to show it off and
fly with us, keep this event in mind.

One last thing, the event will cater strongly to War Birds, Jets
included, but will welcome any large civilian aircraft,

with One Exception. We are not looking for any 3d type Aerobatic
models, regardless of how big they are. We prefer real “scale” models.

If there is any confusion I am happy to speak personally with anyone
who feels like calling me at 863 607 6611 or emailing me at frank@franktiano.com

That's kind of insulting.

So you wouldn't want the giant studacher or an 80% extra 260 at the show? How bout the 50% bill hemples? Those things are just as impressive as any other huge scale model. Why would you want to limit the amount of participants in a show where the amount of aircraft is a pretty small percentage of the general community as it is? I think that if your going to have a giant giant scale show you should open it up to all categories of airplanes regardless if they are aerobatic or not.

Ok, i understand that reasoning, so limit them to fly in a scale manner. I dont feel its fair for the pilots of these large scale planes that want to attend OR the spectators to not include these amazing models.

I read it to be that a non-scale 3D plane isn't on the good list, but a aerobatic scale model would be. Sort of like a "Bling" model wouldn't be good, but an Edge would?

I'm confused....Whats not "SCALE" about an aerobatic model? Dont Extras and Edges and Yaks fly full scale aerobatics?

I can understand if they dont want someone hovering in your face, so let 'em fly some IMAC, that is "SCALE" after all isnt it.

That is just bad PR, should have announced it as an Giant Scale War Bird Event....WAIT...Isnt that basiclly what TOP GUN already is?

Thats what I said. I can see where they wouldn't want the show to be dominated by nothing but 40%s and 3d planes because they want a diverse show with war birds and other civil scale stuff there as well, but to completely exclude ALL aerobatic models is not the right way to doing it.

I can't believe how you guys are reacting....

He didn't say "NO AEROBATICS AT ALL! PERIOD!" he said "no "3D" type aerobatics"

Anyone ever see anything about the La Ferte giant scale events? They get the biggest things in the air there, and guess what.... they don't do 3D! and it's STILL an awesome event.

3D is not the only style of flying.... there's still other things that are fun...

I think it sounds like a cool idea, and will be looking forward to it. If only i had that 1/3 scale J3 Cub i want......

It seems that everytime someone hears aerobatic, it has to be 3D, , not so. all guys involved with 3D flying , how about trying to fly IMAC for just one season, then you will understand that 3D isn't everyting,

Frank doesn't want people to fly there airplanes like helicopters, and I agree...

what's so wrong with scale?

like i said, 3D is not the only style of flying that's fun....

besides, watching a Texan do a 1' pass at full throttle is more exciting than watching something hover at half power infront of someone for 5 minutes.

i agree with Roger!
