If you guys can keep the QQ Yak at around 24lbs you will love the way it fly's.
My electric QQ 102 was at 23.5 lbs and it was easier to 3D than a foamy. And on calm day you can do some beautifulslow IMAC sequences. |

Could you add a 1/4" or so to the standoffs or engine box to move the engine out for balance? If you mounted Rx and ignition batts up front I would think that would work.Seems like an easy way to balance rather than adding lead.

I just finished mine with the DA-85. It came in at 24 3/4 lb. Balanced just fine with the batteries in the engine box. I bet it flies very similar to my Yak with the DA-100.
Flight report to follow. |

The engine is new and I happen to have a Menz 26x10 so thats what i am going to use. BTW, after rechecking the weight its 24 lb. 6 oz. Don't know when I will be able to fly it, the weather gods are not smiling on me right now.

I'll bet it will fly really good. My Gen 2 with a 106 and cans is 29 lbs and it fly's good. I wonder if my gen 2 wings an horizontal stabs would fit on a gen 3 fuse. I could have another with a 85. I wonder if all of the weight savings on the gen 3 is in the fuse? I think the fuse on the gen 2 is the only piece with foam. I'll have to send QQ an e-mail and ask.

Eric,
Just got your email from the company. Most emails get forwarded to me anyways. Yes you can do that. Fuse kit does not come with cowl to let you know. Thank you, Reza

Reza,
Thanks for the quick response. I would probably buy a hole kit anyway and just use my wings and stabs. That's six servo's I wouldn't have to buy. Hard to resell an airplane without wings, if it lasts that long. Eric |

Eric,
You will like the GenIII and I bet you will love it once you are done installing that DA85. Do me a favor if you went that rout, please keep us, everyone posted of what you had to do to get it balanced! I can only imagine how it would fly at 24 lbs with DA85. Same 100cc power on a 24 lbs plane! Take care, Reza |

I have a brand new GenIII that I have not had a chance to put together. I have been busy helping with Python and the 120" and some other smaller projects plus supporting customers by email. Anyway, if there is a lot of interest on this thing maybe I do a DA85 set up with this plane and show what it takes to balance it. Also engine mounting installation. No promise as I do not have the engine and I need to discuss this with Quique again. If I did it, plane will be at AMA Ontario show at QQ's booth that I will be at and I will cover it here on FG as well.
Thank you, Reza |

That DA-85 will be awesome! I sure wish I had an 85 to put on my GEN 3 to try! Can you imagine. This thing would fly like a foamy! REZA you have me really thinking on this one! The possibilities.......................
