Bobalu say's with a jtech muffler all it takes it putting the batteries in the engine box. I will have to use a canister, 98 db rule at my club. I may have to get a little more creative. Longer engine stand offs or maybe some HS-55's on the elevators. HA HA

Thats correct, batteries in the engine box, no spinner or wheel pants. My Yak is a Gen 2 fuselage with Gen 1 wings. If you needed more nose weight you could add a spinner. I went with the in cowl muffler because I figured I would need all the weight forward.

Its actually only 2.5 lbs. lighter than my DA-100 equiped Yak which is slightly less than 27 lbs. On the 85 plane, I'm only using one rudder servo, no pants, no spinner, smaller batteries, anything to make it lighter. Maybe my scale is messed up, but I don't think so.

Sorry for not replying with the flight report. Better late than never.
Anyway, the 85 equiped Yak has been flying for a month now and it flys great. The power seems to be about the same as the DA-100 at 24.5lbs. I attribute part of this to being 2.5 lbs. lighter. In fact, we did a test comparing my DA-100 Yak, with my DA-85 side by side. A friend of mine flew one while I flew the other one at the same time, uplines and pull out from a hover were almost identicle. The 100 seemed just slightly more powerful, but you have to realize that the 100 has close to 30 gallons through it and is tuned for max power. The 85 only has about 1.5 gallons through it, and isnt really tuned yet, but, its getting stronger all the time on a 26A vess, its really starting to rip that prop. I see going to a 27A vess after its broken in. My conclusion is that the DA-85 will fly the hell out of most 35% planes if you can get the weight down to less than 25 lbs. If the plane is closer to 27 lbs., then the 100 would be better suited. Actually, it would probably pull around a heavier airframe at sea level. My field elevation is around 5,300 msl. |

bob what RPM r u seeing on the 26A. I am on my 3rd gallon and its def spinning this beast hard. I have a 27A that I plan to try when it warms up and I start back flying with the 26A for a few flights so that I can get back in tune with this bird so that I will be able to notice the swap out.
