Graham,
I am going to get the 100cc when it comes out. Can't wait. Watching the videos it seems like the prop rips a lot in hovers. Seems to me a lower KV motor on a 16x8 may be a better option. I'd love to hear from someone who has tried this.

Hi Shaun
it does rip a little bit in manouevres like the hover, btu most of the time you really dont need to go near full throttle so you don't experience it most of the time, I think Dan at freestyle-rc is hoping to have a try with a 16x10 on his sometime though.

Nath3D, how does the extra with the saito on it compare to the electric one as far as power and flight performance? What is the AUW on it compared to the electric?

I will also say that this extra is strong...Mine fell out the sky about 15-20 feet up nose first and took the crash like a champ. Landing gear broke off, the motor mount broke and a little bit of frame damage up front. As i was walking to the plane i figured it was done. I have a glow version with a saito 82

shame to hear of your crash, but just goes to show how strong these models are.
Holler1: I thin there is about 1/2 pound in it, the electric one works out at about 5lbs and the glow version works out at about 5.5lbs I think mate, as far as I have gathered they both fly very similarly however the elctric version does have the edge over the glow version, hope this helps

I just finished building my 58" EF Extra. As always, it looks like EF has done a great job with this one. They just seem to keep getting better.
One of the reasons I bought this plane is because I also have the 74" YAK which I run on 2 4350 5S packs wired in series for 10S. I have 4 sets of these packs so I should be able to fly the Extra 8 times without charging. These packs are a little heavy though, so I mounted the rudder servo in the rear as a push-pull arrangement. Works out great, and it looks like I will be able to achieve a very wide range of CG to balance the plane anywhere I want. This may be a good choice for anyone having trouble getting the CG far enough back. Here is my setup: HS-5245MG Digitals on Ailerons and a single one for Elevator. HS-5945MG Digital on Rudder, Tons of power there JR 921 RX 2.4 Receiver with Quick Connect Upgrade X9303 2.4 Transmitter Recommended Torque Motor and AirBoss Speed Controller In order to save weight, I did not install the pilot/dash/canopy floor Etc.. With my 5S batteries the plane weighs 5lbs 9 1/2 oz ready to fly. I am a little worried about the plane flying a little heavy for 3D at this weight, but I should get plenty of flight time. What do you guys think? I also have 6 4300mAH 4S batteries. The plane weighs 5lbs 4oz with these. Have any of you tried this motor setup on 4S? Is there enough power? The only other thing I am worried about is the whether the 3 amp continuous, 4 amp peak capabilities of the BEC included with the AirBoss speed controller being able to keep up with the load of the 4 digital servos. I know that the Switch Mode BECs do better than the Linear ones. However, even with the Quick Connect feature I want to avoid the Spektrum "brown out" issues. Anyone have any thought or experience with this? I wanted to maiden this weekend, but between an IMAC contest, and rain today, I didn't get it done. I am now looking for a Tuesday maiden. I will report back, but until then, I would appreciate your thoughts on the weight and power questions. Thanks, Steve |
