This guy reviewed his at 5lb 9oz. Certainly way flyable, your mileage may vary. I wouldn't sweat it at that weight.

Well,
The weather sort of cleared up today, but still a little windy. I went out and put three flights on the plane. It flies great at the 5 lb 9 1/2 oz weigh on my heavier 5S 4350 packs. This plane is very straight and honest. I set the maiden CG at the rear of the wing tube, and this seems to be about perfect. I will fine tune it on a calm day. The plane took only one click of right aileron and it was flying hands off. Because of the wind, I didn't do anything too low or wild. I did fly the 2008 Sportsman IMAC sequence and it did very well for it's size, considering the conditions. I did some rolling circles, knife edge passes, circles ,and loops, upright and inverted harriers, flat spins, and hovering. I even threw in an aneurysm, and blender or two, I just couldn't help myself. I will save the harrier rolling for a calmer day. This plane did everything I tried very well. In fact, it looks like this will be my new favorite mid-sized electric. I'm sure it might fly even better on the 4 oz lighter recommended batteries, but I'm very happy now.

The power system is perfect for this plane on 5S packs. The 4S packs will fly the plane, but losses it's sparkle and punch, so I'll stick with the 5S.

My Spektrum Flight Log, showed that the AirBoss ESC with Switching BEC had no voltage problem with the type of flying I did today. It held 5.2 volts minimum, and the Rx never did a re-boot. However, my regular flying is likely to be more "spirited" so Ill keep my eye on it.

So, in general, I have to say that this is the best EF plane I have flown to date. They keep getting better and better. I am a happy customer, Thanks Chris and the EF team.

Glad you like your new plane. I like mine too. I have my cg at the middle of the wing tube but wanna try it at the back of it.

What size servo horns are you guys using on the elevator servo(s)?

I used the composite ones that come with the HS-5955 servos. I use aluminum arms on my big planes, so I had a bunch laying around. It puts the center of the hole at about 1.15". Plenty of throw on all surfaces using these arms.

Hey Guys.

In Europe you can only buy this plane empty.
What kind of motor would you recommend? What would be the best?

What is the best mAh range battery for the 58" extra? What is the recommended C rating?

I used a 5s, 3700 with good results. It gave about 8-9 minutes of hard flying. I would keep it around 25C. You'll be fine with anything from 20-30. Enjoy!

5s, 3700 to 5000 mAH would be fine....

any quality pack rated at about 20c or above would be fine

The 3700 is minimum and also the lightest from what we can tell...the 4200 sized batteries add a decent bit of weight and dont really add much to the flying time.

Yes, the bigger batteries will work, but it flies very well with the 3700 because of weight.

Well here is the scoop. I bought a barley used extra in the yellow scheme with the extreme flight motor and esc. The extra also has high end JR and Futaba servos. I drove up to pick it up and when I got home the graphics showed up an hour later. Luckily the past owner took very good care of her and there wasn't any graphics yet.

I am putting a ar7000 and am trying the zippy 4000mAh 20 c packs a 499 grams. I bought 2 new for 80 bucks so I can't get hurt to bad.

thanks for the info

Does anyone remember what a good CG is for freestyle?

The Zippys arrived. 4000mAh 5s @ 515 grams with deans connector. My first try at the Zippy's so we will see what $40 bought me.

Could someone post some closeups of the first foot of the fuselage. Mine nosed over on a landing and it took out the bottom front of the plane and i need to rebuild it. Also does anyone have any advice for beefing up the landing gear.
