Man, the wind has been kicking up out here stronger and stronger every hour, and right now we're getting gusts of up to 80mph! NUTS! I live about 50 miles south of the Malibu area, and a fire just popped up in Orange, near our local flying club, OCMA, in Santiago Canyon. That area is a freakin' tinder box, and I have a bad feeling that this new flamup is going to crank up bigtime. I totally hope it does not.
It's dry as heck out here, and very warm. Our good friend Jeremy AKA Toro around these parts, is a firefighter in that area, and I'm sure he'll be coming back with some tiring stories of the past few days. Stay safe buddy. MD

I just drove back from the IMAC Regional Finals. Las Vegas to San Diego. It was an intense drive to say the least. The winds were a constant 35 to 45 with gust to 90mph. I had to use a lot of left rudder just to keep the truck going straight. The pass through the mountains was closed for a while due to fire, and once I got through, I drove through at least two other big fires. There is so much smoke it was like driving through heavy fog. It was also very hard to breath, even with the windows rolled up, air conditioning going, and breathing through a wet cloth. Very scary trip home...

I was driving back from San Diego Mission Bay from the US F5D Team Selection and when we got to Del Mar the smoke was so thick it was choking... and this is miles and miles away from the Ramona fire that sparked up. The weird thing was that where we were flying next to the bay had a nice on-shore breeze all day and once we went north 10 miles up the coast the wind was HOWLING off shore.
I seriously hope these winds mellow out sooner than they expect so they have a fighting chance of containing them. I hope our fire fighters stay safe and folks can get prepared if danger gets near. Pray for rain and light winds... |

The forecast is for winds 25 - 40 mph all the way till Tuesday afternoon..... This could be a big mess.
The news are already showing homes loss to the fire and reporting dead animals that got left behind. I can't imagine how anyone near a canyon here in SoCal will get any sleep tonight. On a lighter note.... Congratulations to Troy Peterson, Dan Kane and Travis Flynn for making the USA F5D team. I'll post the scores on a new thread. http://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/f...tml#post320851 Last edited by pbrantuas; 10-22-2007 at 03:15 AM. |

I have friends from Rancho Bernardo here at the house with 3 dogs and a cat watching their neighborhood being reported as hard hit. We have a fire over the hill in Fallbrook that may creep its way over here. YIKES!!!

I saw the winds were suppose to let up a little today, but it's so dry it's still a scary situation. I heard one of the fires were arson set, in 3 different spots, you know they would love to catch that MORON!
Another scary thing is after all these fires, when the rains do get there there won't be much to hold the soil and the mudslide start....................bad deal. ![]() Chuck Last edited by Tailchaser; 10-23-2007 at 10:22 AM. Reason: Correction |
