619.86 3 Travis Flynn

Toy and Dan went head to head all weekend long. Troy ended up with the fastest time of 57.36. Travis and Gary were also battling it out all weekend long.

Here are the final standings:

1 Troy Peterson 589.92
2 Dan Kane 606.23
3 Travis Flynn 619.86
4 Gary Freeman 624.40

Thanks for your cheerleading this weekend Pedro! I am really happy that I made it through the weekend with one airframe and didn't blow anything up. I was amazed how well my system handled the amount of current running through there. BIB BIG Props to Steve Neu (Neu Motors & Neu Power) for his help with the motor and batteries. He was also the one who convinced me to try out when I had myself convinced I wasn't going. I have to also thank the other racers for a great weekend, some critical support when I had radio issues, and all around a thrilling weekend.

Travis and Gary had an amazing fight to the finish for 3rd. They were a fraction of a point difference going into the 12th round. The difference came down to a cut on Gary's last flight.

Congrats guys!

Troy or someone else, can you give a summary of what the F5D event entails? Is it straight pylon racing, or a variant?

It is an FAI category of your standard 3-pylon racing. In F5D we use the same course as the Glo version F3D. Unlike Q40 or Q500, the individual planes are timed as they fly around the course for 10 laps vs man on man style for who ever crosses the finish line first. Usually a minimum of 3 planes (up to 4) launch at 1-second intervals and race for 10 laps. Speeds are now in the 190-200mph range like the glo F3D but with an airframe half the size. We use the latest in brushless motors and lipos and pull upwards of 1000+ watts of juice.
